A very nice beach for swimming and clean safe waters are lovely and warm. Great for surfing. A lot of beach stalls and places to eat and drink on the beach with service to your beach table. Good beach for walking and people watching

Ponta Negra Beach takes its name from the surrounding neighborhood in the city of Natal. The name (“black point”) derives from the dark stones that are found along this beach. The beach is about 2.4 miles long (4 kilometers) and at its southernmost end, is bordered by a large sand dune (390 feet tall) known as Morro do Careca (“bald hill” in Portuguese). The waters in this part are very calm & ideal for taking a dip. If you like surfing, stand-up or kite-surfing, different parts of the beach are ideal for these sports. The turquoise water here is very clean.
This beach is also very popular because it is located near many hotels and pousadas, restaurants, bars & food stalls. There’s activity here day and night. If you want, you can walk the length of the beach along its wide paved path or rent a bicycle.
Another reason for the popularity of this beach is the warm water—it’s about 82°F (28°C) all year-round. If you’re visiting the city of Natal, it will be hard for you not to find yourself on or near this beach, and you will be glad that you visited it too.

This beach is good for a quick visit, but not a place you should stay to eat/drink. You can't enjoy yourself as you have people stopping you every 30 seconds to try and sell you something. The whole setup from when you get to the road next to the beach is a trap to get money out of you, a guy will offer you a table, then you end up being charged about 3 times what you'd pay somewhere else for drinks/food. Best advice is to check it out whilst passing by, but go to cotovelo beach instead, it's about 15 minutes away by taxi and you'll be able to enjoy yourself without worrying about getting ripped off or having someone speak to you constantly trying to sell you things you don't need.

The nights are as good as the day. The tides vary considerably to much beach to none. Night lighting is good and safe for tourists walking the beach. Great photo op!

My husband and I enjoyed a lot. I'm not crazy for beaches but to get away from the cold weather and eat lots of extremely affordable lobsters and shrimps, it was heaven. Nice beach with sidewalks and great restaurants.
The place seemed very safe and local people are very friendly. They always try to help even not knowing English. We recommend it, specially now the currency makes it quite affordable.
Yes, the constant breeze is unique and very relaxing.

We will comeback again. Eventually it was more easy for us as portuguese speaking.
A lot of salesmen at the beach but they are not troublesome normally.

You can not say it is a very glamorous tourism site, but you can not be in the area of Natal without visiting the Morro de Careca. The best time to go is at dusk in Brazil, about 5 pm, with the light of Sunset

Very nice beach, some nice restaurants. Only negative point is that the beach becomes rather small when high tide comes in.
