I booked this with my hotel which included transport, I am a single female so wanted to make sure I was safe. The show was outstanding it was exciting, energetic and infectious, the entertainer were not only gorgeous they were extremely talented. The costumes were vibrant as you would expect from the Brazilians. I thoroughly enjoyed the night it's a must see show...it makes me want to come back for Carnivale in Feb! Do your self a favour and go and see them...

The show was stunning, We paid at the door for only 50 real. We google the place and took metro to get there. If you buy from your hotel its about 200 Real. The folk dance show covers almost all part of Brazil for about 90 minutes, at the end they pull you in to dance with them which was great as well. overall 10 out of 10. Well worth it.

We booked the show through our hotel. First, there is a quick samba lesson which was fun. Then, the show starts. There are about 10 or 11 acts, each featuring a dance from a different part of brazil. There is a live band with singers. The costumes are awesome, and the dancers were all very energetic. At the end, you get to take photos with the dancers and dance with them on stage. Great introduction to the vibrant culture of the country!

We went to the show without the dinner. It is held in the Fashion Mall down in Sao Conrado (not in Leblon) and the venue is like a small provincial theatre, completely uninspiring and free of any atmosphere, not helped by low attendance and no proper bar, just a table like you would get at a village fete. The dancers themselves are actually ok and very energetic (there is no interval) but in parts the show had a very amateur feel. There is no real information given about the dances, a leaflet with some history and interpretation would help. We could have seen Cirque du Soleil or a performance in the West End of London for the same amount I paid for this show so I was rather disappointed to say the least, and therefor I am unable to recommend it. Sorry.

First of all, we are sorry for the delay in our answer because we checked each of your comments that now we are able to answer.
We thank you for your opinions that contributes with our reviews and reflections about our job.
The show GINGA TROPICAL is presented in a THEATER, located in a very high level district of our town, and offer security because this THEATER in inside the Shopping Fashion Mall.
Our show is a cultural entertainment and that is why is presented in a Theater, not in a SHOW HOUSE neither a RESTAURANT, so WE DON'T HAVE DINNERS. We have a Bar in the hall and the kind bilingue atttendants offers (DURING THE PERFORMANCE) any beverages and some drinks as our typical delicious "Caipirinha".
The show GINGA TROPICAL is the official representant of the Brazilian culture for all over the world, and last year represented Brazil in the EXPO DUBAI, the major international exposhisiton of the world.
Our musicians (12) with our 28 dancers forms 40 artists in the stage to perform the show, besides 15 technics in backstage. All of them are PROFESSIONALS THECHNICALLY QUALIFIED registered in all levels in Brazil.
The concept of our show is to involve the spectator with our beautiful musics, performances, style and experience. Before the show begins there is an audio that is heard in Portuguese and English that describes the concept of the show and invites the public to a trip through the diversity culture of the regions of Brazil.
Besides, The couple of singers of our band, announces each region of Brazil during all the show, in English.
GINGA TROPICAL can not be compared with the great Cirque du Soleil because the concepts are completely different and not measured through the costs, because the valuations are very complex, but our ticket is inside the statistic of the shows of our cathegory.
The show GINGA TROPICAL is in 9th year on the stage, ad we are surprised with the unusual aspects you inform. We respect your opinion and we would like you to respect our people, our culture and our job.
We wish you many good times in the entertainments you choose, and invite you to come back and we are sure that you will have a good impression about us. Thank you very much.

Drunk patrons, high prices, and uncomfortable seats harmed our enjoyment beyond belief. When we complained to the managers we were argued with -- worse than being ignored. I know there are lots of positive reviews on this place, but it sure didn't meet our expectations . . . or what we paid to get it. Be wary ! ! ! ! !

We were thrilled to be going to a show. We came to our B&B, changed and got in a cab to get to the pickup point. After more than an hour and no show for pick up we hopped back into a cab for our hotel. Upon arrival we found out they cancelled the show at the last possible minute.
Not only did we waste hours waiting and 2 can fares but we wasted an evening in Rio that we could have been enjoying the sunset at Sugarloaf.
If your time is limited in Rio don't chance dealing with this unbelievably irresponsible company! It's just not worth the hassle.

Hi Esquivel,
we are extremely sorry for your experience. Please allow us to explain this unfortunate, one-time occurance: The owner of the theatre where we had been performing our show for almost a year decide to rent out his house to another company during the World Cup. This all happened overnight, without notifying us, and breaking our rental contract that guaranteed us there for another 2 years. We spent that day dealing with the owner, and calling our lawyers regarding this issue. We are sorry to say this all happened very fast, we given the chaos, we didnt have time to contact our clients for that night. So we ask for your apology and understanding.
We have since then moved to a better, more famous theatre in Lapa called Estudantina. Our shows are back and better than ever, and we hope to be able to see you again in Rio, at our show.
Cheers!

No samba lessons as advertised. Many drunk patrons yelling, distracting during songs and dances; I complained to the management who did nothing about it. I asked for a refund and was denied. We've been to shows all over the world. This was by far the worst. While there were some impressive and talented performers, the atmosphere and attitude of the employees ruined the experience. For over $100 USD/ticket, we expected at least a place where we wouldn't have to leave early for fear of the rowdy drunks and beligerant patrons. Stay away. Stay away, indeed!

Collected on time at hotel but then proceeded to go around to 4/5 other hotels. Some where people were late and we waited outside for ages.all the time the driver had his radio full blast with a lot of shouting and screaming because Brazil were playing football!
Arrived late at the restaurant so rushed. It was very crowded. Food was OK but nothing special. We then drove a while, we thought the restaurant was inside or next to the theatre. We then had to walk through a shabby desolate shopping arcade to the theatre. Inside the theatre it was very shabby and run down. The samba class was a joke, just standing by your seat clapping and swaying. The show then started and even though they all worked hard it was amateurish. The best was the 5 acrobatic dancing men. Even the advert for drinks was very amateurish. All in all a disappointing evening and not value for money

We went to the show as part of a dinner and show package. The theatre is quite small and comfortable enough. The show was certainly very lively and varied, with colourful costumes, and entertaining dancers and exciting acrobatic moves. The band was good too. However, I found the whole thing very confusing as there was no commentary to tell us what was actually going on - no description of the narrative when a story was being told, and no announcement of which dances were actually being performed. It was all a bit noisy and ‘wham bam’. In many ways, I wished we had skipped the show and just gone to a bar which had dancing

An excellent show. I believe it shows a snapshot of the history of Brazil through dances. It would be nice if there is a short description of every dance projected on the side of the stage during each performance. This way the audience will appreciate the performance even more.
Still, it is a great show.

We are arriving in Rio early April and have the evening of Tues 5th to enjoy a samba show. We are staying at Windsor Plaza. How do we get to the Ginga Tropical and what time is the show? Also there are 4 of us & do we need to book?
Written 16 March 2016
You can get the tickets online or at the hotel. The show is less than 1/2 an hour from your hotel. The show is about 1 1/2 hours long. Very good show, I recommend it.

We will be staying at this hotel in March. What sort of transportation options are there for getting back
and forth from the airport to the hotel and to the falls? We are on a budget so trying to find the most economical route. Thanks!
