Arpoador is where Copacabana meets the Ipanema Beach. Sometimes you can go to the rock at the very end of the peninsula on foot or you can cross through the very lively streets where you might find surf stores and restaurants. Beach wise it is much better to go to Ipanema itself. Great spot to catch the sunset

We got there by walking through the Ipanema Beach... a nice walking. Once there, you may take amazing photos of the Ipanema Beach with the mountains behind. Wait till the sunset, and woooaaahhhh... there is you taking photos fot the whole life. But, hope you won't get a deludge like we did... fortunatelly we got some pictures before it rains.

The beach itself runs straight into Ipanema. I didn't realize it was even called two different beaches at first. The rock is fun though, and give a pretty good view of Ipanema. It's not great for swimming because of all the surfers. But it is very fun to go watch surfers of all different levels.

I visited here in mid November. The views are amazing and it's great to watch the surfing on Ipanema. However, that's about it. There's also a lot of graffiti and people playing loud music on their phones etc. It's worth a visit but it's nothing special. I wouldn't rush back.

Well, this is supposed to be the place to view a pretty sunset in Rio. However it's not that great. There's rubbish around, crowds of people and if you want to be in a more secluded spot on those fabled rocks you are likely than not to stumble upon some pot smokers or people having a wee. In my opinion... More

This spot is not the most touristy however if you have extra time to walk down tot the arpoador along Copacabana it is a memorable walk.

on summer time (December to February included) week-ends are terrible on Apoador beach and trock: too many badly educated people, too many robbers, too much noise so please go there on weekdays and as earlier as possible with a surf board if it is possible because this a surf spot!

Great to watch the surfers at the end of Ipanema beach. A quite space far from the maddening crowd. It is the end towards copacabana Good location too for hotels.

Staying in Ipanema

Neighbourhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
