Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.

Love the place but it is not smart how they manage the payments

Love the place but I s not smart how they manage the payments. I have being there couple times and it is always horrible the payment moment. Huge line, more than 1,5 hours waiting to pay! It is not smart at all.

Tourist trap but still fun music & dancing
Mar 2020 • Couples
Need to arrive early to get a decent table. Long lines & very slow moving as well. Virtually no English & no well organised. Great samba music but food & drinks pretty limited & lots of deep fried options. Drinks beer & Caiperinhia only. Staff not well trained & unaware of what was included in cover charge. Great ambience with lots of eclectic art & collectables on display. The street outside is also entertaining & quite safe

The only place where I wanted to dance during last 10 years!
Apr 2019
This place is gorgeous from the atmosphere point of view! This is the only place that truly made me dance during the last 10 years! The music and Brazilian dance is something outstanding! The club is multi-level with incredible design which is different in each zone.
The meal are great!
This place has some magnetic very light atmosphere where you really relax, getting fun and feel happy!

Do. Not. Go. Here.

This is literally a tourist trap. We waited for about 30 minutes to get into this ramshackle club. I didn’t mind so much as we chatted with fellow line standers and listed to music. There is no VIP or bottle service at this venue. Scenarium is a three level old mansion with effectively folding tables and chairs scattered about that they serve drinks and food at. We were forewarned about the food so stayed away. On the second floor there is a connection to a dance club. That part was ok. The DJ played a mix of Brazilian, Latin and American top 40 hits. One positive thing about this club is that you will likely find some English speaking patrons and to some degree staff.

The problem comes when you go to leave the venue. Instead of using credit cards or cash to pay as you go, they take your photo upon entry and give you a house charge card to charge your drinks/food on. At the end of the night everyone has to queue up, turn in their cards and pay their tab. This resulted in an hour long line TO GET OUT OF THE CLUB!

If you go and you’re even thinking about leaving, get in line. There is nothing worse than feeling trapped in a venue in a place that is not your own. God only knows what would happen if you lost your card and someone else started charging to it or if a waiter mixed them up.

Besides being a fire hazard of mass proportions and a museum of junk (read armless statues not like Venus) this place just isn’t worth it. Enjoy it from the outside and visit a better bar on the same street.

Good samba, terrible food

This a great samba club, but don’t eat here. Tried strips which they had not even warmed up! Since the music is so good I gave them a three but the food is zero!

Rio Scenarium: Quirky Antiques, Amazing live Music &Samba, Disappointing food
Nov 2019
This is the best known venue for evening entertainment in Rio.
Located in Lapa, has been ranked by the Guardian newspaper as one of the ten best bars in the world.
At the entrance you pay 50 reals and you need to present a valid original ID, otherwise they will not let you in. Also, in case of celebrations such as birthdays/anniversaries they guarantee the person +1 entrance without charge.Of course, expect to pay for your dinner and drinks.
Rio Scenarium is a great venue for live music, samba shows, mixed with instrumental jazz, Brazilian and international-pop dance music (Thursday to Sunday).
Housed in a 19th century building full of thrones, armours, dolls, clocks, colonial furniture: the magic of the place lies actually in its peculiar interior deco. The owner/s collected thousands of antiques, some of which they regularly rent for movies. Eccentrically decorated with all sort of items, from vintage cars to Chinese vases, on the 3 floors you can find the most quirky and unusual things ever seen all together.
In spite of the good overall experience, the restaurant serving sit-down meals, was disappointing the night I visited Rio Scenarium. The food and drinks quality was not as I expected, as had better food/drinks in much smaller and less fancy places in the same area, however ,the overall atmosphere, the amazing live music and the locals dancing samba is an experience worth a visit.

Nice for dancing but awful food!
Nov 2019
Brazilian music, nice place, but the food is the worst!
Antique mansion with live music. More locals than tourists. Good place to listen to Brazilian music. And with another stage for rock music.

Dont go here if you are trying to find d a good nightclub with international musiv
Sep 2019 • Friends
read some blogs and checked online before arrival to Rio to decide what clubs we wanted to visit
This one we was told was the Number 1 Club In Rio.. sounded great but it was awfull!

We arrived around midnight and it was not much people at any floor.
The "international dancefloor" wasnt playing international music and LOTS of people was leaving after just a short time
.
We took one drink and the bartender swiped our cards and when we 10 min later asked him where our drinks was he was playing as if he didnt understood english and as he couldn't remember us ordering. . Only problem was that there was NOOOO order guests around the bar so it was just a game since he understood us 10 min earlier.. . He tried to get our cards to swipe them again and get more cash from us without delivering our drinks.
We got them after a few minutes arguing . Shame on him.

So NOT worth going there if you are looking for a nightclub in Rio with a international vibe.
Only older people around there in the age of 50-60.. stay away and save your cash

Fun night listening to lots of Samba!
Sep 2019 • Couples
We ended up at Rio Scenarium due to a recommendation from the front desk at the hotel lobby. At first, we thought we would go to check it out, have dinner and go to another bar. We spent our whole night there. It was very fun to watch all the locals have fun dancing and just enjoying the music and the place. We had the burger and the other sandwich and both of them were really good. We also had a couple of beers. We did not dance, but we enjoyed the night listening to the music and people watching.

Disappointing
Sep 2019 • Couples
Went on a Friday night (R$45/person). Lacked atmosphere compared with many of the alternative bars in Lapa district. Mainly tourists and groups. Only live musician was a guitarist on ground floor (Samba area). Next floor was disco area, but no one dancing.
