Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”

Where it all began!

Historic São João Fort is a fascinating place to visit. This is a guided tour with rich history and interesting comments. Take your camera and take photos!!! You will visit the chapel, brig, courtyard, gun emplacements great views of the bay and other forts in the bay and across the bay. Great history! Shack shops outside the fort, also check out the canons ca. WWII outside the fort..

Great place

This is a historical place, where Rio de Janeiro started. You have to ask for authorization to visit, if you are not a military staff. Great place to swim or to have fun at the beach as it is a very secure place.
