General: I just wanted to experience samba just like locals do, instead of fancy shows adapted for tourists. I found this tour through a travel agency (Setembro); they explained it was a rehearsal night for this samba school (rehearsal for Carnival). The place is like a large warehouse offering a spacious area for musicians and dancers; some food and souvenir... More

Come here around 11 just before the practice starts, it will be more fun. The practice last for a couple of hours, and people just dance along with the music. Its one of the best way to experience Samba if you don't come at the festival time. The entrance is R30, and drinks are a bit more expensive than stores... More

I went on 2003 and would rank that visit as the best ensiao of all samba schools i had ever been to, to date. So it was dissapointing when this last ensiao was the worst ensiao i've been to. What happened? 1) the batteria was weak. A long time ago it would give a sensation that the house was going... More

I wouldn't advice going here without a guide. We went with a guide sent up by Olivia tours and omg this place was magical. From pick up to entrance to the arrangements were just perfect. The music omg, the women, omg.. I met a French girl and I forgot to get her information before I left so if you ever... More

If you're looking for a relaxing and fun evening listening and dancing to Samba music, then this is NOT the place to go! However if you're after an overcrowded (to the point you can no longer dance), sweat box of a place which seems to lack air conditioning, then this is for you. We went to enjoy the final selection... Great energy, great (long) night, the price is totally worth it and drinks are cheap inside. That was definitely my best night in Rio, dancing samba and looking at all the musicians, dancers and the other persons in the public dancing. It is magic! If you go to Rio outside of carnaval, I definitely recommend to go take a peek.... More

Live music, dancing, drums, food... everything for fun at your disposition. Salgueiro is not one of the biggest Scolas de samba, but the people who support it are filled with energy and help you make the best out of this experience!

We had a very nice evening in this samba school. The show starts at around 11PM and goes on until deep in the night. Although compared to Carnival it is small, but there is still a samba band playing all night with about 50 people. On the other stage dancers in carnival costume are entertaining the crowds. This is one... More

There is so much history embedded in the Brazilian sound, not only samba, vosa nova, and all of the wonderful sounds, that were born in the African slavers huts. There are few places in the world where Music brings people together for the joy of live. This group is one of the oldest of the Carnival and during the year... More
