Best at sunset. For a walk and taking photos. You can make a long walk from Ipanema to Copacabana and enjoy the views and atmosphere.

We cycled along to Ipanema from Cocacabana on a Brazilian holiday to find it even more crowded than Cocacabana. It is lovely however and full of lively locals having a great time. I'd recommend having a drink in the small cafes at the end of...More

There are 3 beaches that share this approximately 3.6 klm stretch of sand. Ipanema Beach is in the middle of Leblon Beach (to the west) and Arpoador Beach (to the east). We were lucky to have stayed for a week at a hotel just across...More

This beach stretches on from copacabana but differs in that there are better waves here for surfing. The Arpoador which is like a rocky protrusion is a good place to watch the sunset. You walk through the park to get to the Arpoador and then...More

Yes, very famous, no, not what you picture it to be. Dirty, and not very inviting. Locals were not very friendly, but that could be because of the amount of tourists.

My husband and I walked Impanena Beach quite a few times as it was close to where we were staying. Also they had little bars for drinks scattered along the shoreline. Everyday was different and entertaining well worth the visits

It's a great wide beach right in the city with close access to many hotels. There are also plenty of vendors and other kiosks or mini-bars selling drinks, food, and toys. Additionally there are plenty of nets set up for beach soccer, volleyball, or volleyfut.

Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the
best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is
inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from
Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many
high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which
can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue.
The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing
many art galleries that show contemporary art. There
