Brazil surprises me so much. The things you think you'll hate, you'll actually love - just like this one!! From the outside it doesn't seem like much but when you walk in it's actually an amazing building. Both in what it holds and the architecture. Lots of expeditions and events are held here so be sure to check what's happening!

Nice place in the center of rio de janeiro, easy to reach (the metro leaves you 3 blocks and many buses pass through the door). I think it is ideal for a day that is raining. The cutural center is cute, the architecture of the place is spectacular but I personally expected something more. There were only three samples in... More

I have been going there since the early 1990s. There´s always a great exhibition or a play to see. The bookstore is also good, although the coffee shop needs improvement.

There is always great exhibitions, concerts or plays going on! It's a great place to spend a few hours to enjoy the arts in Rio, but I personally don't recommend the cafe there. Coffee and sweets are expensive and not so amazing..'

Excellent place to spend some time learning interesting things about art and culture, specially if it's raining in the city. There is an awesome bookstore inside, and there is a cool café too. The library is perfect! Air conditioner and quietness, all you need to concentrate. They have a small movie theater, where you can always watch an art movie.... More

This is a must when you visit Rio de Janeiro. There are always good art expositions at this place and always something interesting to visit and free. At this time there is an exposition about Mondrian but if you go on the weekends be aware to go by taxi or uber (best way to arrive). During the weekends downtown is... More

We thought we would be visiting a building, which we did but also there was a Piet Mondrian exhibition on. It was totally free (would have cost £15. per head minimum in London) Fantastic!

Unlike other cultural spots in Rio who are completely abandoned the CCBB is well maintained, clean and shows interesting exhibitions. The dark point - common in Rio - is hours lining up under frying sun to access the building.

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
