It is a beautiful park with well kept gardens. If the sun is shining, I'd definitely recommend tourists spend at least one hour there. Another similar place (and free) is Parque Lage, a 20 minutes walk from here. The experiences are complementary and I'd recommend you visit both of them.

The Botanical Garden was inaugurated by Prince Joao VI just after he arrived at Rio with the Portuguese Court in 1815. It was the beginning of "Floresta da Tijuca" (the largest urban forest in the world) which was by this time mostly a coffee plantation. It is a must see for nature lovers, it covers almost the entire Brazilian flora,... More

This is a great introduction to South American flora. The trees are amazing and you really get a feeling for the uniqueness of Brazilian plant life. It will take you about three, four hours to walk through the whole park.

Jardim Botanico is around the Lagoa from Ipanema beach, about 10 minutes by taxi. The gardens are mature with many large trees providing a lot of shade and cool walks. The gardens are large and well maintained, and will easily take 2 hours to visit fully, with plenty of beautiful photo opportunities. The orchid house was probably my favourite with... More

Many sorts of plants in a large and clean garden. There are a couple cafes that offer a variety that should satisfy. It is easy to get to and worth visiting. As always, the personnel do not speak any other language than Portuguese, which is very bad for a city like Rio. Must see garden if you enjoy botanics and... More

A good way to spend some quite time away from the beaches. The garden is well kept and maintained. Too young children get quickly bored though. Would still recommend to visit.

One of the oldest botanical gardens in South America, existing since the period of the empire of Dom Pedro.

I love the botanic garden in Rio! The gardens are beautiful, peaceful, and serene. They are also enormous with a lot to see. You can see parrot and other tropical birds, monkeys, and many beautiful plants. Take repellent as it can be wet and there can be mosquitos. Also take water and snacks, but there are places to buy some... More

Rio's Botanical Gardens is a must-visit! The locals, especially those with small children, visit this national reserve regularly for its quiet, magical nooks lush with the native flora, a large park with slides, swing-sets and a large picnic area. Boasting two cafés inside and a great bakery outside next to a turtle pond, there are many things to do on... More

More
