This is the home and land of the famous designer. Most of his public or private gardens for patrons feature striking curved lines, native plants, and complex rhythms. However here space at home he designed the whole landscape. You walk in what looks at first like a natural forest yet you soon realize that every tree and bank of flowers... More

A hidden jewel, this is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Rio. Far from downtown Rio, the distance means nothing when you see yourself in Burle Marx home, when you realize how much he knew and loved about nature, plants, life... Also, as you talk to the current staff you realize that all of his love for... More

I went to the museum during the Olympics where it was free, I think it cost about 10 Brazilian Reals to visit, you could get lost in all of Mr Marx artwork collections and painting is an experience, his life story is very important to Brazil with his famous design that is all over the beaches. The tour includes a... More

At least, it used to be wonderful when the muncipality used to provide some funds. It used also to be open all days. I have not been there for a year, and I heard one has now to book visits to at least a group. But is is worth taking a closer look at the lifestyle and work - both... More

I've tried to book this tour a couple of times, when it has shown available. If this operator does not accept solo travellers it needs to reflect this in the overview.

But for Marcos Serraoo of RioActiveTours, I'd never have visited this wonderful garden. I had done several thoroughly enjoyable trips with RioActiveTours, when Marcos, knowing I was a forester, recommended a trip to the gardens. WOW!!! Talk about being blown away when we arrived. Entering the gates I saw for the first time two wonderful specimens of Eucapyptys deglupta, the... More

Great tour. I'm from Rio and recommend it to those who enjoy nature and landscape. The guide is competent and knows the place, its history and the species of plants that are there. Then we can enjoy lunch at the various restaurants there are in the region of Guaratiba, specializing in seafood. The location is not close to town but... More

A delightful house and garden about an hour and half by car from Rio, but well worth the trek. Roberto Burle Marx, was one of the most influential and important land scape designers of the last century. Entrance is by appointment only and you will be be accompanied by a guide throughout your stay. Plan lunch in Barra de Guaratiba... More

The site is well out of town, will take up a1/2 day for someone staying near the city center. Very worthwhile for the gardens and the history.
