This is one of the most amazing gardens in the world. There are about 40 acres that were conceived by Roberto Burle Marx.

There is also a collection of buildings. One, the Party House is an unforgettable space with amazing views into the gardens. The main house, has a genuine Treasure Room filled with rare and wonderful folk art. The restoration of a sugar warehouse is part living area, and part art studio.

The genius of Roberto Burle Marx is everywhere. His paintings, his ceramics, his collections, his architectural designs, his restorations. And, surrounding all of this is the unforgettable beauty of nature as seen by, interpreted by, Roberto Burle Marx.

Allow 2+ hours for the tour. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the sitio. This is not suitable for wheelchairs, or those with difficulty walking; uneven surfaces, stairs, cobble stones, etc. There is water available throughout the tour and it's a good idea to keep drinking, refill your cup at every chance. Bug spray might be a good idea.

There is a VERY small gift shop.

There is a lovely, beautiful restaurant about 5 min. away by car, Tropicale. Ask the guide for a discount coupon. The creamy shrimp stew was great. HUGE portions.

PREPARE TO BE AMAZED!

This is a truly special place. Burle Marx was a genius in my opinion, multi-talented artist creator of gardens, interiors, and exteriors. It was a privilege to visit his home and gardens and learn more about him and his work. Our guide, Mateus, was top class too.

We loved the chance to join an English speaking garden tour with Matthias at the sitio. This tour with a sitio guide had to be booked on their website and cost 10 BRL ( about 2 USD!). The gardens are amazing and there are many artworks in the various buildings. It is almost an hour drive from Rio. The organised day tours are way more expensive than just reserving online and taking an Uber there and back. If you are interested in gardens and this remarkable man who was a world renowned garden designer and artist you will enjoy this!

You book this on their website. Tours are 9:30 and 13:30. We had an English speaking guide and shared him with some Dutch people. We took an Uber there and found our own way back using the local bus which connected to the BRT Metro bus. Surprisingly straightforward. Gardens and the house are spectacular and the tour was very well organised.Took about 1:5 hours. Cheap as well 10 reals entry, or half price if over 60! Don't miss it if you are in Rio area.

It seems mostly tailored for teaching.
Not easy for tourists to visit. It appears under renovation construction given the large sum of public money shown on an entrance sign.
Tue to Fridays only and make sure it is not a local holiday and go before 5PM as it seems to work on bank hours.

This is a fantastic location for weddings and just a nice get away without going into Rio central. After visiting this park there are many wonderful seafood restaurants along the road to this park.
