Incredible views. My Guide, Digão +55 21 99342-0050 was spectacular! We learn a lot about Rocinha and Vidigal! We met at 4am at the bottom of the favela and the Motoboys drive us to the top of the favela, and then we walked 50 minutes to the top of the mountain. The sun rising was unforgettable. It's a must go!

Our best hike in Rio!
We hired a great and very affordable guide who lives in the favela as we were not sure about safety (Robinson Santos, whatsapp 0055-21_99876-9649 or Ana 0055-21-98394-4928 ).
Make sure you go in the morning, as it get very hot, even though the whole trail is shaded by trees. Do not go if the weather is cloudy (you will not see anything once you reach the top) nor after a rainy day (it is extremely slippery).
Bring good hiking shoes and water and may be hiking poles! The hike is very steep and the return can be treacherous.
We first took a taxi to the entrance of the favela then moto taxis to the top of the favela where the trail starts. Don't skip the moto-taxis going and returning as the road is quite long and steep to the start of the trail. Besides that, they are great fun. Robinson even filmed us as we were riding them!
If you want to drink fresh coco juice or water midway, do bring some change (hats off to the guy who schleps his merchandise half way to the trail). You sweat a lot on your way up, but it is WORTH IT ! At the top, the view is magnificent ! Thank you Robinson!

Beautiful view! Fun favela mototaxi

I went with my girlfriend in Jan 2022. We ubered to the base of Vidigal and then got a mototaxi for R5 each to the base of the trail. They knew what we were coming for and there were about 20 guys there. They look like they primarily take people who live in the favela up to their houses. At the base of the trail there was a guy who made us pay an additional R5 each to get on the trail. It felt off the books and we protested, but we don’t speak portugese and then didn’t really mind paying one more dollar.

The hike was beautiful. We had views of Rochina off the back of the trail and then incredible views of the whole city, Christ the Redeemer, Lagoa, Leblon and Ipanema once at the top.

On the way down we started walking down because the taxis don’t wait at the base, but waved down two mototaxis quickly and they returned us to the base.

Highly recommend.

This hike truly was amazing! Beautiful views throughout the hike. I enjoyed the challenge of the steep but short hike. We took an Uber to vidigal and then took a Mototaxi up to the trailhead. There weren’t many tourists on the day we went and it was nice to have an uncrowded trail. The trail is easy to follow getting there is safe. The motorcycle ride through the favela is not for the faint of heart though I thought it was scarier on the ride down because my feet kinda popped off the pedals a bit. I have experience on the back of a motorcycle so maybe that helped me feel comfortable a bit.

Beautiful view of Rio!!! I recommended to go with footwear (slippers, flip flops). We went up in a combi and then we walked for 1 hour. It is very tiring but worth it, the view is spectacular. I do not recommend going with children or on cloudy days to check the weather before.

We visited the mountain here as part of the "real" favela tour organised by Aurora Hostel (as opposed to the tourist agency government propaganda ripoff safari tours), visiting from the adjacent favela around midday. The favela is an easy walk from Leblon beach, just past Sheraton's monstrosity, and you can either walk through the favela up the hill or take a Moto taxi up to the park where the nature trail begins.

The trail is a good 45minute hike (if you're fit) up the mountain, with a lot of steep climbs and some occasional slippery paths. It is recommended not to try it at all if it has been raining. Nature is rife up the trail, and if you are lucky (and bring some fruit with you) you could get lucky enough to see some monkeys on your way. Alternatively, even more rarely, snakes have been known to inhabit some of the trees about midway up.

Towards the summit, the plant life gets increasingly more compact, making the walk a bit difficult, but at the top you are rewarded with a flat rocky plateau with panoramic views all over the south side of Rio, from Copacabana beach to Rocinha favela. Absolutely, this mountain climb is a must do for nature and hiking lovers, and the view is even more spectacular than the one from Sugarloaf or Corcovado.

Got a taxi to the start of the Favela where there are lots of police and motor taxi drivers who who’ll charge 5 real to take you to the start of the trail. Didn’t feel unsafe at any point. You then walk alongside the left hand side of an old football pitch and enter the unsignposted trail. 45m walk to the top, mostly on rocks and with lots of bushes but not too strenuous. You might see small Monkeys if you’re lucky, incredible view from the top.

Seems to be easy and close, but the first issue is how to get to the base of the hill. Taxi will drive you to one spot at the begging of favela. From there on only option to get to the start of he hill trial is to take local driver. Local driver will take you there in 5 min drive by motorbike for 5 reals (1.25 USD) one way. When you reach the spot it will take you 40-50 min uphill walk to the top of the Two Brother. Check weather before, because clouds can easily block your view over the city and hiking will be for nothing. The hike is light to moderate. Last part is bit difficult but be sure that you have right shoes. On some spots be careful not to walk on the edge. It is recommended to have local guy with you.

If you don´t know how to get to the top, check it out first and read the news before you go because it is in the middle of Favela do Vidigal. The view from the top worth the hiking!!
