Elegant track. Fun to watch the races. We ate on patio of onsite restaurant. Delicious steak and sides, 500 ml bottle of beer served in ice bucket! An agent circulated around so you could place bets as you ate.

Admittedly, we both enjoy horse racing so we decided to go to the course in Gavea (15 minute taxi ride from Ipanema). What a great afternoon out; finding out the relevant information was tricky but it seems that races occur most weekends 2-6pm (& some during the week). No charge to enter the course and there are a couple of restaurants for lunch. The one that we ate at was excellent, relaxed and right by the course also good value. The course was not busy and full of beautiful laid back locals mainly with their families. The Jockey Club building & stands are elegant and possibly date from late 19th century. Betting was easy even though our Portuguese is not good- some of the tellers spoke English. You can easily see the horses close up from the rails which is always thrilling. Go!

Has a great restaurant in the main club area, and horse races. Worth a visit if you are staying in the area or passing by. Only the two previuosly mentioned areas are open for the general public, the rest being reserved for members.

I visited the jockey club on a Sunday afternoon, having previously checked that horse racing was scheduled. We ended up spending a few hours in the place, the races are very well timed with one every 30’ which gives you time to see the horses before they race, place a bet (starting from 2 reals so good fun for all) and see the race which is about 5’ in total all inclusive.
Ton of charm exuding from this place from a colonial era, relaxed atmosphere good for families too.

We are currently on our third week of our holiday in Rio de Janeiro we have been to the track twice, on both occasions we thoroughly enjoyed it. We backed a couple of winners and found the staff very helpful and friendly even with the language barrier( we have become very good at charades 😄👏). We would recommend an evening there.

Our visit to the Monday night racing event, sitting in a high bench, drinking caipirinha, eating escondidinho of dry meat, and betting on horses with less chances was wonderful. That's really a great place for foreigners to enjoy Rio, Monday sun set!

We paid 100 (!!!) reals per person for a student party (at a venue with really great potential) with the worst DJ ever.
Aperently two weeks ago the party was fantastic at this place, so it is a gamble

On vacation in Rio visited the racetrack on Saturday 11th August. The winningmost jockey ever rode there on this day --Jorge Ricardo , who surpassed the previous record of Russell Baze in February 2018 and has been champion jockey of Brazil on 26 occasions. He rode a 10/1 winner for me after a disqualification.
Amazing racetrack about 2miles round with a grass and a sand circuit. There were 10 races on the card and , for the first time i witnessed 4 persons playing table football on an extended table tennis table, which appeared to be part of a league.
