It was lightly raining that day, but it wasn't too bad. Staircase is in the artsy part of town, in Lapa, off of a side street. There are always people there, but people respect your picture at the staircase. The actual staircase is a lot of steps up. Learning the history makes you appreciate it more. It's amazing in person,... More

Not to be missed is this tiled stairs. It is steep so not for everyone. We took the small tram to Santa Teresa then walked probably about half a mile to the stairs and then descended the stairs themselves. You can walk up the stairs, but then you miss the colonial houses of Santa Teresa and the views. A great... More

This place is crazily popular now, with good reason, a true Rio memorable icon of a place to not be missed. I get it, it is very cool and the steps are unique and memorable from all over the world, the closest I can even think compares is the Spanish Steps in Rome and maybe some of the steps into... More

A must see! Crazy, colorful , fun! How a normal person can change everything for the better. After seeing the escadria wander around the neighborhood. So many nice historial buildings and the Lapa Arches. Old Rio!

Went there 2 days ago with my family of 4. These stairs are something that should be seen. Of course they are not a #1 priority while you are in Rio however if you do have some spare time I would recommend you to stop there for a great photo opportunity. They are located in Lapa area and its rather... More

The ability of the guy that made this beautiful area, is undoubtedly very high! But for me it let down my expectations slightly. However still a wonderful experience!

My wife and visited here with our Gus and nothing can prepare you for this amazing work of art with tiles. We had the history explained to us on one man's determination to create this. There are tiles from over 150 countries and we so enjoyed walking down the steps and seeing Jorge's house on the way down. Checked to... More

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
