Touring Petropolis, Brazil, one comes upon this chocolate factory and store. The chocolate tastes wonderful and is offered at a reasonable price. Take some with you. But, be careful, it does melt.

Patrone chocolate house has always been a stopping point for the tourists. It is located near the city entrance, so it is easy to visit for a quick stop. They sell a few hand made chocolate which is nice, but nothing fancy. Prices may be salty for the locals sometimes. As this is traditional, I would recommend a visit to honor the memory of the city. A lot of traditional businesses in Petrópolis have closed their doors or changed their ways drastically through the years.

A nice little stop on our way into Petropolis before going to the Imperial Museum. It is a beautiful little place with a nice view all around. We were a bit disappointed as we thought we were going to get an actual tour of the factory, which would have been fantastic. But, we were taken into the large reception room and offered 1 sample of one kind of chocolate, which was delicious. Temperatures were in the 40's in Rio (over 100 F) and these candies are delicate! I didn't buy, but later realized it would have been very nice to have a few of them to munch on as we waited in line for the Imperial Palace. In addition to chocolates, the site offered clean restrooms and a variety of Petropolis souvenirs. We were the only tour bus at the location at that time, which was excellent as they had time to serve each of us.

A must stop in Petropolis! You have to try the hot chocolate and you will never forget it. Wish we could have the machine and order the chocolate to have at home. I have to reinforce, we were there in 2011 because TA doesn't automatically allow you to post farther back.

We bought some chocolate there and it disappeared quickly. What remains in our minds it the collection of miniature cars that they had in a case in the center of the room. If you love miniature cars like our friend who is a collector, you will be ready to ask to take the case home with you. They are not selling anything from the case...sorry.

I have enjoyed these chocolates since I was a kid. Last December my husband passed by the shop and brought me a pack of used to be my favorite chocolate. I was so disappointed to see that the bonbons shrunk and there was barely some liqueur inside them.

All the tours to Petropolis stop by the shop of Patrone Chocolate Factory. They let each of us taste a small piece of chocolate filled with non-alcoholic liqueur. They also let us use their bathroom free of charge, which is very important for the travellers like us who have come a long way from Rio.
I was so glad to get out of the tour bus and stretch my legs under the roof of the shop. I was also glad to be able to buy a cup of coffee and some chocolate in the shop. While waiting for our tour bus to come back to take us to the next place of attraction, we continued to browse in the shop, where various kinds of chocolate as well as all sorts of souvenirs were displayed for sale. Although the shop wasn’t air-conditioned, a large fan helped us feel cool during the heat of the mid-day sun.
