About

I really liked this place, I learned a lot. It's important to visit places like this to avoid falling into oblivion. It was built with the labor of enslaved people... In addition to being able to appreciate all the architecture of the place and learn about part of the history,
There are also artist exhibitions in this place.

We went to visit the Historic Center of João Pessoa and São Francisco was the only one that was open. As it was the only option, we decided to visit. And the surprise was huge, because the church is beautiful. And the church of S. Francisco was one of the churches. The entrance is through the church of Santo Antônio. It has other chapels, museums, courtyards, art and craft exhibitions. All in all, it's a very interesting complex. Unmissable. I highly recommend it.

Church-turned museum and not very inspired. Interesting architecture, though. No English guides available.

A must-do. Not in the best part of town, but it's very old and well-preserved and larger than it looks like from the outside. The frescoes are lovely as are the views of wilderness from outside some of the windows. Weddings here... very, very hot since there is no AC. Also has exhibits. You definitely leave learning something.

In this church you can learn so many about Brazil history, see the view of the river and gardens of the church and see the part of the history that the church began. And there are a lot of interesting historic artefacts inside of the church, although there is any security of these artefacts and something may can happen, someone steal, break. But it's a wonderful place to go.

It is beautiful, but not different from other Catholic churches from that period that I have seen in Europe. The entrance is only 4 reales but the guide speaks only Portuguese. There are at least 3 other churches right there, walking distance, so if you really like visiting churches, this is the place to go for you.

Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating conventual complexes from colonial times in Brazil. Built between the end of the sixteenth century and the end of the eighteenth, the complex includes church, cloister, chapels and private rooms where the friars once lived and worked.

We had a lovely visit here to this historical place with a very nice and helpful guide who took us around and explained everything very clearly in English. It was lovely to understand more about the history and also to see that the building is still being used as a cultural centre for the city.

Cultural center São Francisco in historic center of João Pessoa
Nice historic point
Old church with a lot of history, and now turn into a cultural center.
There’s a fee to enter and you can only do the guided tour (about 40 mins).
Building is sadly not well preserved. But some of the churches alters and remaining painting are really nice.
