Our guide told us that he used to come here when he was younger, and it fell into disrepair for many years. There is an effort underway to renovate but it will take some time to complete. Regardless, we still enjoyed our stay here. The park area was larger than we expected, since it is in a very busy area of the city. We expected it to be in a remote area and somewhat secluded. We saw several turtles, monkeys and beautiful birds including the Scarlet Amazon that resembles a flamingo, as well as a good size area that contained huge lily pads. Our guide provided us with information related to the various trees and plants located within the park. One of the most unique trees we saw was the Paxiuba Tree that looked like it had feet/toes at the base of the tree. He told us that it is referred to as the “Walking Tree of the Amazon” since it walks about 20 meters per year. It was fascinating to see. There was also a small aquarium here that had fish and snakes. As I mentioned, I did enjoy this Park and would recommend visiting. However, make sure you have a guide or an audio tour that will help you identify the key points of interest.

the Emilio Goeldi Museum, research centre and zoo was founded in 1866.It is now the main research centre on natural systems and sociocultural processes of the Amazon. The museum and zoo are listed as protected sites by the National Institute of Historic.

We didn't get to see many animals on our trip so It was neat to see some even if they were in cages. I should note not all the animals were in cages some run very freely. The ones that are in cages to have big cage. The grounds are well maintained and the animals look well taken care of.

The tropical plants and huge waterlilies was incredible to see as well. You truly feel like you are in the jungle when at this facility.

You would think a site like this would be a distance away but it is right in the middle of Belem. If you are in the city you should stop by, it is a really neat place. I wish we had more time here. We were hear for about an hour.

Accessible on foot from the historic centre. Beautiful, peaceful park where you get to see a variety of birds (toucans, owls, blue and yellow parrots, scarlet ibis etc.); caimans, monkeys, turtles, fish to name a few others. The large lilies are also found in this park. Signs are in portuguese and english. This is a great way to spend a couple of hours.

This combo zoo/botanical park was gorgeous. I wish I'd had 3 hours instead of only one. I'd also recommend going in the morning instead of afternoon like our tour was, because the animals would be more active. Our tour guide was excellent and taught us a lot about the flowers and trees of the rain forest that were there. I loved seeing the spotted jaguar, the toucans and ibis, the giant otters, the spider monkeys, and the huge lily pads.

Tropical atmosphere with several animals walking freely in the park. We took a city tour with a local taxi and this museum was one of the highlights of the tour.

Is in the middle of the city and has some free animals walking around. I had a great time watching a sloth and the manatee. Worth a visit for sure

It is a wonderful park, in the center of Belém. You will see parrots, crocodiles, turtles, monkeys and lots of different birds, trees and plants, including the wonderful victoria-regia.

I Highly recommend to visit this Beautiful park, it is rich of animal and plant life, great for photo shoot and wonderful experience.
It’s a tase of being in tropical jungle without actual being in the wild!!
My wife and I enjoyed walking and taking lots of beautiful close ups photos. Everyone is nice especially Zoo keepers were inviting and I was fortunate enough I be able to come so close to amazing Onca named Buma.. We had a great time!!

This was a fantastic combination of zoo and museum. The museum included information about local natural history and recent history of land use in Brazil, as well as an outstanding anthropological exhibit. The zoo and aquarium have many native species, and I appreciated that there were signs to identify tree species along the walkways. For 6R per person, this is a great activity!

This is a precious (though momentarily at a low point due to cuts in Science & Technology funds in Brazil) spot. Of historical value and an opportunity to be around regional fauna and flora
