Cool historic square in the middle of Ouro Preto. Facades of churches and governmental buildings surround the open area. Good place to get oriented from.

I expected a lot of cafes and restaurants around it, so I could sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
Its a busy street with cars coming and going, and small shops around it.
Not a place to relax as I expected. Busy and poluted

The square is the center of the town and outside the old government building , now a museum. The square was named after Joaquim Jose Da Silva Xavia, a hero in Braizillian eyes for his resistance against Portguese rule and ultimate removal because of it (hanging). There is a statue of Joaquim , also called Tiradentes because of his activities and it is of interest his head points away from the government building. Nice square which you will see and wish you had stayed there as it is all down hill from this point which means a walk back uo the hill.

This square is right at the center of Ouro Preto. You can't miss it if you visit this town. The museum of the Inconfidentes is in the old town hall at one end of the square. There are many shops and old buildings along the sides, and at the other side there is the science and technology museum. For food I would explore the side streets.

We enjoyed taking in the overall vibe here--everything from the statue of Tiradentes, to the historic buildings, the street vendors and musicians, and the wayward tourists struggling to get just the right selfie. Of course you have to spend a little time here when you visit Ouro Preto!

Rich in history and Baroque arquitecture, the museum it a must and delicious restaurants near by. The should stop the car traffic through that area, is hard to absorve the moment while worrying about been runner over by a car.

Not a place to linger it's a main square with a number of tourist shops and a statue, and more importantly it's a traffic hub with cars traversing the area. The roads leading off of here is were the historical areas are and are less affected by traffic

Unavoidable if in OP. Adjacent businesses sell stones/jewelry, souvenirs, etc. Many good food options within easy walking distance.
