The science and technology part of this museum is very dated, but the rock and mineral collection is wonderful and comprehensive, as befitting an old mining town.

This museum is really worthwhile for rock hounds and budding geologists. There is a very impressive collection of minerals, many of which are locally mined and turned into the "pedras lepidadas" sold in every shop and peddled by eager garimpeiros on every street corner on...More

Overwhelming number of mineral specimens (30,000?) on display in multiple rooms but Mineralogy 1 is spectacular if you appreciate geology at all. Plenty of other things to see and all is very educational. Great value and time well spent.

If you are as interested in these sculptures of nature as I am, this is your fine art museum to go in Ouro Preto. Two rooms full of precious eyecandy can be almost overwhelming. Beautifully displayed in wood cabinets, the variety of the rocks and...More

This is a very interesting place to go and explore with, or without, your kids!!! The “dark room” with all the gems is truly amazing. I would only suggest more panels with explanations to make it even more educative.

This museum hosts two amazing gem stone rooms with some truly exquisite pieces! Worth the price of admission alone. The other exhibits that involved mining equipment etc we're a bit lame and I would have liked some more information to have been in English. Some...More

Museum bigger than expected. Descriptions in English, French as well as portuguese. Interesting if you are science minded and for me made me want to read more around the subjects. The mineral room is fantastic!

The Museu de Ciencia e Tecnica da Escola de Minas/UFOP is worth a visit if you are in Ouro Preto. The museum is housed in an aging school, some of which is being renovated, and I found the building's slightly run-down atmosphere to be interesting...More

And everything keeps changing there. It's a new museum still in the process of adapting the architecture and getting things in the best way for expositions. There should be some explanations about how the architecture changed along the different occupations of the building complex!
