Be prepared for a long walk in heat. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Go early to avoid big crowds for taking pictures.

We ignored the donkey carts and walked there easily ourselves. There's a bit of a steep bank to get to the beach, so people not used to climbing or wearing flipflops might struggle. It's a striking arch, but a line of people crowd around it taking Instagram pics. Go 250 meters wither direction and you'll largely be alone. Sea is rough and filled with grass. But it is beautiful.

Although this a main landmark for Jericoacoara, it is often floaded with tourists which really spoils any experience. Check for the best time to visit, otherwise you ould get into a tourist trap.

To reach this place on the beach is not so easy but I'm sure you'll be happy after doing this effort. Out of special photo you can make, it seems to be back at the origin of the world because nothing is changed from centuries over there. Amazing.

One of Jeri's landmark, it is also shown in photos as a place to go to watch the sunset and see the sun through the "whole" in the rock. I have seen countless reviews expressing that is a photoshop and that does not happen.

Well, I have to say it does happen, the trick is to go at the right time of the year. To be honest, we didn't see it through the hole because we needed to leave earlier, so not walk back in the dark with kids. But there was no doubt you could see it at the right angle. The park ranger was directing the crowd to position in certain places and line up for the shots.

To get there, you need to do some hike, either inland or through the coast. The hike can be a bit of an exercise in particularly hot days, but it is a good exercise. The walk through the coast line (maybe subject to tide conditions) was about 40min each way but we were a bit nervous to have to do it potentially in the dark on our way back. Most people seem to arrive at the area through an inland path, which we are not sure where that starts from.

I honestly thought this would be a tourist trap and that the sun through the "needle head" as a photoshop, but we found that it was actually a tour highlight, especially if you can manage to go at sunset time at the right time of the year.

The Pedra is accessible on foot from town. It is a nice walk to get to it with some nice views along the way. From the beginning of the trail, it takes about 30 minutes to get there. I would recommend wearing a good pair of sandals or shoes. As you arrive from the top you get a good view of the Pedra with a huge line up of people waiting to have their photo moment. The beach as opposed to the one in town is very quiet. It makes for a nice walk or swim. There is also another big rock, good for pictures further down. You can also make your way to the Farol de Jericoacoara for a 360 degree view of the surrounding. It is amazing to see and a good place to see the sunset or sunrise. It takes about 30-40 minutes from town and I am guessing 20-30 from the Pedra.

It is a beautiful scenery, although it is not something so special and out of the normal... A huge line of people to take pictures under the rock. If you are like me, and don’t like lines, move a little to the side and take your touristic picture, though not under the rock...

Nice but not amazing: the rock is not amazingly beautiful not big. Very crowded with a lot of instagramers taking themselves in photo.

We went walking from Praia Malhada to Pedra Furada. Once walking near the beach (in this case, check the tide) and the other through the dunes/mountains, both were great and have a minimum level of difficulty. I recommend to use gym shoes (we used and it was great).
