From the outside one might think to skip visitng Fortaleza's Metropolitan Cathedral. (see photo #1) The exterior is laden with a century of city grime. Only over the entrance has it been recently cleaned. It would be a mistake to miss the interior of this...More

Large cathedral, some nice vitraux, but a shame it is so badly kept. How can a government be so unnatentive with the main church in a state capital? Some attention would certainly be a sign of respect for the people of Fortaleza, and it would...More

This big and beautiful Cathedral in Fortaleza is worth a visit. It´s open daytime apart from Mondays. Other times like evenings check their website when it is Mass or other events. It was dated in 1978 so it is relatively new, but due to the...More

It is said this cathedral was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany and is the third largest in Brazil holding up to 5000 people. The exterior is impressive and the interior vast. It's always interesting to wander along the niches and stations and alcoves...More

One of the best known constructions gathers elements of the school architecture Gothic. Located in downtown, Fortaleza/Ceará (Brazil), near Central Popular Market and Army Headquarter.

It is really cavernous inside but not overdone like some cathedrals. The stained glass windows are bright and colourful whilst the walls and ceilings are white coloured. This is also within a couple of minutes walking distance to the Mencado Central.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Joseph is worth visiting if you are already in the area, but it is not worth going out of your way to see. The exterior is stucco covered in a black grime and the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Inside...More

A lovely cathedral near the market. Gothic architectural style, sparsely, but tastefully, decorated with beautiful white walls and stained glass windows. Check it out. 👍🏻👌🏻🙏🏻

What I would say for this attraction is that should be combined with the Mercado Central tour. Then it would pay the visit. To go there just for the cathedral, then it could be disappointing, once there is nothing else in the surroundings.

From the outside thisc begrimed Roman-Gothic Cathedral with its twein spires dominating the surrounding arwea, and the buttresses so reminiscent of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, could understandably be mistaken for neo-Gothic and old. It is far from venerabler, however: construction of thuis edifice began...More

From the outside it doesn't look very inviting and in an unpleasant neighbourhood, but inside it is very nice, austere, but nice. The stained glass windows are a highlight and the chapel is bright and welcoming.
