Right at "Praça Thomé de Souza", the very heart of colonial Salvador, you will find this interesting building, the "Memorial da Câmara Municipal de Salvador". A small museum preserving the memory of Salvador's City Council, with paintings, documents, maps, furniture and objects. The building itself is quite curious, as it housed in its ground floor and basement, during all colonial years, Salvador's public jail. Through some windows, remains of the old jail can still be seen. Check for any temporary exhibition. Free entry. Combine your visit with nearby "Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Ajuda", "Palácio Rio Branco" and "Elevador Lacerda", with great views of "Baía de Todos os Santos". Enjoy!
