"Praça Thomé de Souza" was the first square built in Salvador, in 1549, by its very first Governor General, Mr. Thomé de Souza. The square belongs to the city's historical center and houses many important buildings, such as the "Palácio Rio Branco" (former Governor's Palace), "Palácio Thomé de Souza" (City Hall), "Memorial da Câmara Municipal de Salvador" (former City Council), "Elevador Lacerda" (elevator connecting the Upper City with the Lower City) and an imponent bronze statue of "Thomé de Souza", naturally. "Baía de Todos os Santos" and its blue waters is just in front! Great place for breathtaking pictures! Watch your belongings at all times and visits at daylight are strongly recommended. Enjoy!
