The Rio Branco Palace is a portrait of part of the History of Brazil. It is closed to visitors and, as the tour guide told us, the property was the subject of a concession for a hotel chain and will be transformed into a hotel. I don't know if it's true, but it would be regrettable, because, as it is part of Brazil's history, it should become a museum

Beautiful palace that was the seat of the city government. We find it a few meters from the Lacerda Elevator. It is a construction from the 16th century, although it underwent a renovation in 1900. I think it can be visited, we did not do it due to lack of time. We only took a photo of its imposing façade.

This majestic construction was rebuilt last centrury and the location hosted the Governors sent by Portugal to manage the richness of the colony.
Now it holds a small museum and the secretary of Culture; but the staircase to the right allows a wonderful view over the bay, that when entrance is allowed by security guards...

Located on top of the cliff within Plaza Tomé de Souza, (who was the first governor of Brazil), is one of the oldest paces in the city, it was formerly the seat of parliament, quite an architecturally stunning building.

This attractive old palace dates back to 1549 and once was the seat of government in Salvador. It has been used as a military barracks and a prison and has been renovated a number of times but appeared to be currently not in use.

This building used to house the government of Bahaia. It was built back in the 16th century, but was ruined in 1912, rebuild in 1919 in neoclassical style and was completely restored in 1984. It houses today some public institutions.

This palace was built in 1919, in eclectic architectural style, as headquarters of the State of Bahia government. As a matter of fact, it was "rebuilt" on the same site of Bahia's first Governor General palace in the 1500's. It is still beautiful, totally restored and is much more like a small museum, with a small collection and breathtaking views of "Baía de Todos os Santos" and its calm blue waters. A quick visit at free entry. "Praça Thomé de Souza" (named after the first Governor General) and "Elevador Lacerda" side the palace. Enjoy!

Situated near the elavador lacerda, the Palace is not that big, yet by looking at it you can see it is grand. Inside it now holds small art galleries, we saw one from teenagers to young adults and they were heartfelt. They covered topics from social media issues to the issues the country faces for women.
There is also a large balcony area that faces the bay which is great for picture taking. We took quite a few and they came out great.
You cannot go upstairs, guarded of course. The palace is beautiful. Free entrance, nothing to buy here. No bathrooms. Will not take long to take a look around.
