This was the first Benedictine Church build in all Americas. It’s beautiful. There is also a Museum there but it was closed.

This monastery is a masterpiece of colonial architecture; truly outstanding and peaceful inspirational. But it has had an incredible role in defending Brazilians; firstly, a strong role in the Portuguese war against the Dutch invaded in 1624; then protecting people persecuted by dictatorships in the 1930s and 1960s. It deserves a look!

Saint Benedict Basilica is a beautiful neoclassic church in Salvador’s central area, beautifully kept, where the old city gates used to be. It currently holds baroque and neoclassical art restoration courses as well as a beautiful choir.

The monastery is very beautiful both outside and inside. At Sundays, the mass at 10 a.m. has Gregorian Choirs, the experience is very pleasant.

The monastery besides the Church has one of the best libraries in Bahia.
Despite its simplicity, the church reveals a special environment of meditation and beauty.
Sunday mass at 10 a.m. is celebrated with the traditional plainchant. The plainchant is a type of vocal music, exclusively ecclesiastical, executed by choirs in unison or solo, during the celebration of Catholic religious ceremonies.

One of the few churches with an organ in Pelo. A very nice working church to stop and take in one's surroundings.

There are no words to describe the grandeur and beauty of the São Bento Monastery in Pelourinho. The amount charged at the entrance (R$ 10.00) is much more than fair to have access to such a beautiful place. The visit is not restricted just to the gold-covered altar, but also to the entire monastery, which has many areas for visitation. There are very clean bathrooms available to visitors, which makes all the difference to me. I highly recommend visiting the monastery!
