A bit off the beaten path, but well worth a visit. We went fairly early in the day and a helpful young man took us around to see every nook and cranny including the escape tunnel in the basement that connects all the many churches in the city. He explained all the carvings and panels, showed us private rooms, and,... More

This beautiful Carmelite convent is well worth a visit, not so much for the rococo church interior as for the adjoining chapels and convent buildings. It's not open all the time and it's tricky to find out opening hours in advance.

this has a church, a dining room, a downstairs dungeon, the lot, the air and space is breathtaking and good old body of Christ in a coffin, always scaring the kiddies....loved it.

This church is in the hystorical center of Pelourinho and deserves the visit. Not only the church but the monastery at it side, transformed in a hotel, and specially the sacristy should be visit, only can be reached through the hotel.

Very beatiful church in the heart of the city. Must see inside and out. Good architecture and scenery outside the church.

We stayed at a hotel around the corner and this place has some interesting history and displays. Still under going renovations, hopefully they will finish sooner rather than later.

Agree with the previous comments. This church may not be the most beautiful church in the country, but the history is the thing here.

This is not a must see but if you are passing by and I am sure you are since Peleurinho area is not that big, go inside. The entrance fee is only 2 R$ and it is worth it since the real size Christ sculpture covered in 2000 rubies as blood is there. The church itself is nice.

There isn't much to this church, especially not compared to others in town. But if you're interested in the culture and history of this area then this is an important part of that.
