Entrance to the museum is free, you just need to sign up on the guest list at the entrance.
There are several permanent exhibitions - archaeological, numismatic, military, painting, etc. The largest are probably the military and numismatic.
Personally, the small resources of the museum, mainly replicas, did not impress me. There are lots of information boards, probably useful, but only if you know Portuguese. No information in English.

This lovely building has been restored and is now the site of 5 museums: Numismatic Museum, Tiradentes Museum, Amazonas Art Gallery (Pinacoteca), Museum of Image and Sound, and Sculptures Museum. I've visited three of them. Concerning the Amazonas Art Gallery, I enjoyed some paintings and artists, but was disappointed by the fact they don't allow visitors to take pictures of the paintings nor have books or catalogs about their art collection that I could buy. Also, only a very small part of the collection is being exhibited, due to the limited space.
The Sculptures Museum presents basically copies of some famous sculptures.
Tiradentes Museum presents the reconstruction of some historical rooms with nice furniture, tapestry, paintings and other objects, some of them bought in Europe.

In the middle of the teeming city of Manaus a beautiful palace appears, all pink and lovely and historic. The cool interior offers respite from the heat, and a bevy of english (sort of) speaking students will guide you from one room to another, each one containing or explaining another aspect of Brazil's tumultuous 500 years of history. And probably the best coin collection you will ever see. Don't miss this palace when you visit Manaus.

I did not go inside, nor either know if you can; my main interest was to admire Manaus old town architecture, which is so gorgeous. And this one is for sure a beautiful one to see.

This museum presents exhibits showing the history of Manaus and the Amazon area.
It's perhaps a good attempt to familiarize people about the area which has a rich history. But it needs to be developed further.

I found this set of museums to be a bit of a mixed bag - the art was good, as was the camera section, but I was less taken by the history of the police. It's worth a wander round though - free, another example of period architecture, and there's a useful and friendly cafe on the ground floor.

This building was formerly the police headquarter when it was restored. It has expositions of photos and objects from Manaus history. It´s worth a visit.

The Palacete is a must see if you like to see the history of the cities you visit!!! This is an impressive place to visit!!! There are numerous museums to check out. My favorite is the Museum of Image and Sound (Museu da Imagem e do Som). They have a very impressive exhibit of cameras, the oldest dating back to around 1830. It's pretty cool to learn most of them still work. One of the volunteers even tried to use a late 1960s Canon to put one of my lenses on. I would have laughed if it would have fit. Another one I particularly enjoyed was the Bernardo Ramos Numismatic Museum (Museu de Numismática Bernardo Ramos). They have some really neat very very old medallions to view. I especially liked all the old coins they have in relation to Brazil, some dating to 1400 or before. The Archaeology Exhibit is nice as well, where there is respect shown to those who were of VERY humble means, including people who had no country. I also liked the exhibit of their artwork throughout the years in the Pinacoteca of State (Pinacoteca do Estado) one piece of work that has a frame covered in gold. That piece is worth A LOT of money. There are some other very nice paintings as well, showing the true culture of Manaus. And hey, I was even interviewed for a commercial for this exhibit. We'll see if it gets used or not. I think this is VERY worth spending a couple hours here!!!

Olá, fui no Teatro Amazonas, Museu do Índio e Palacele Imperial no mesmo dia.
