We stopped here since our drive took us literally right by it, and we'd heard that it was very historic. It was definitely a nice spot to get out of the car and move around a little bit, and the entrance fee (4 KM) was low. That said, we knew only the barest outline of historical information about these tombstones and thus did not fully appreciate all that was there to see. I'm sure it would be much better if you visited with a guide, but for us it was mainly a chance to spend 15 minutes out of the car, stretching our legs, and buying an ice cream from the small visitors center.

The city of the dead of Radimlja, which is on the way to Mostar, is considered one of the most important sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 122 tombstones from the 12th - 15th centuries are scattered in a vast field. The tombstones are made of limestone, decorated with a variety of decorations with different motifs: figures of men and women in various activities, such as fighting and hunting, figures of noble people, various symbols from nature, vines, stars, sun and moon, animals and ornaments. Some of the tombstones have an inscription, and researchers have identified the names, which allows the tombstones to be dated.
This necropolis influenced the Bosnian national poet Mak Dizdar, who was born in the close by city of Stolc (1971-1917). His book "The Sleepers in the Stone" is a collection of ballads in which he tries to describe history, beliefs and destiny through a metaphor, through a Bosnian man sleeping next to a stone from the Middle Ages.
This is a Unesco world heritage site, and entrance fee sre 3 Euro.

I originally never planned on visiting this place, but I'm so glad that I did! These are the most well-known and photographed stecci (medieval Bosnian tombstones) in the country. I have seen them on the Bosnian Mark paper currency, as well as different souvenir items. They are extremely interesting and have many different designs and pictures. The most interesting are the ones with the warrior with the bow and arrow waving its hand as a welcoming gesture. The cost of admission is about 4 Marks or approximately 2 Euros. Definitely stop and visit if you're in the area!

On our way across Bosnia and Herzegovina we saw many such tombstones (stećak), but this one in Radimlja has the most preserved tombstones in the entire country. It is located near the road Trebinje – Mostar and has a large parking. The fee (4 KM) is quite low for such an important museum. Don't miss it if you are near.

Just close to the main road when driving from Dubrovnik over Trebinje to Mostar. Fascinating site on the UNESCO protected list.

It's a fabulous place, this Bogomile (Pataren? Katar's?) necropolis, but the presentation is far from satisfactory. There are no plates providing information about individual tombstones - "stecak", or at least a leaflet with plan which would provide such information. It's a real pity... Still this place is a must for anyone visiting Stolac
