Ever since visiting Mojiko in April 2018 and seeing the Station building shrouded in scaffolding, undergoing restoration, I expressed a desire to return one day when the work was completed. 18-months on, I got the opportunity whilst staying in Kokura to make a fleeting visit to Mojiko to view the result of the lengthy Restoration Project.
The facade of the Neo-Rennaissance building (built 1914) has been restored to its' former glory and brought bang-up to the 21st Century with the inclusion of modern ticketing facilities and a Starbuck's to boot.
With the dimly lit period wooden canopies over the Station Platforms, all that's missing from this iconic scene is an original locomotive idly discharging clouds of steam!

Lovely restoration and nice station. Seriously good Michelin restaurant upstairs. We caught the little historic train from nearby and that was pleasant as it allowed us to walk back from the Hamon tunnel under the straits.

A small and easily navigated station. A good looking building that is simple to get to your track. Nice fountain in front.

I had wanted to visit Mojiko, but the day I went (10 March 2019), it rained so hard that I ended up visiting the Mojiko Train Station on its Grand Opening Day, after a 7-year restoration. The building, in Renaissance style, was completed in 1914. The restoration was carried out meticulously and tastefully. On the Grand Opening Day, there were special ceremonies, exhibition, and video presentation on the restoration. The restaurant on the 2nd floor (used to be for VIPs) and a Starbucks Cafe on the ground floor (previously a waiting room for 3rd class passengers) also had their opening that day.
It's an interesting visit, despite the poor weather.

Yes, it’s a train station but also good as a photo spot. When there are no trains and no people, it’s excellent and I recommend it.

A great place to visit for a day! Lots to explore. You can walk the distance between the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Honshu through a deep, long tunnel under the water. We enjoyed the novelty of that, as well as seeing the reasonably-preserved Moji station. I want to go again!

Just a short JR ride from Kokura in my case.

An old station that has exhibits. Attached to the station are some shops for tourist. Worth a visit.
