It was Sunday and we came by here for a visit after visiting Ise Grand Shrine, that was just a stone's throw away from here.
This is an old town with several streets where many restaurants, souvenir, art and craft shops, bakery and dessert shops etc are located. As it was Sunday, it was crowded and several shops had long queues as it was near lunch time.
It was a nice place for one to learn about the history and culture, lifestyle and food culture of Mie and it's people and if you are into this, you will surely indulge in the nice ambience!

A shopping street that merges old and new. Lots of variety for food vendors, shops and restaurants. A nice little distraction on the way to the Grand Shrine

About halfway Oharai Machi you will notice a huge stone lantern Japanese style. This is where Okage Yokocho starts a small shopping area which goes a little sideways towards the in itself straight Oharai Machi. It also consist of "Edo-type" buildings housing restaurants and souvenir shops. The area is great for making some spectacular photographs. There are a lot of nice small alleys.

This place has a lot of stores in small area. If you like eating and shopping, great place to visit.
We went to here after Naiku shrine visit.

This is a must see place after visiting the Ise Shrine. The street is lined with a variety of souvenir shops with local specialties. My favorite is a shop selling locally brewed sake.

This was the added bonus for our visit to Ise Jingu 伊勢神宮, the unexpected fun and excitement. Something we hope to share with fellow TA reviewers!
To start with we alight 1 bus stop earlier while otw to Naikū (内宮). at the Jingu Kaikan-Mae bus stop … We saw activities inside the opposite lanes and decided to venture in as we still have time. The streets opened to more lanes and soon we found ourselves at the centre of a real happening place! The shops here had some very interesting items/stuff which looked made from local artisans.. Later that we know it is a small district traditional town reproduced just east of Ise Jingu, which recreates a townscape of past centuries (Edo Period).
Okage Yokocho 托福橫丁街 features various shops and restaurants and is a fun place to sample local treats & food or just look for souvenirs. We skipped the deep-fried stuff and beer as we are happy with our finger-food and just wonder around, “lost” most of the time. Especially one corner where the shops sell cat-theme souvenirs and there’s appear to be a small “cat museum” where ppe queue to enter.
And we finally hit upon Oharaimachi (おはらい町) which is the traditional approach to the Inner Naikū (内宮) entrance, but also a tourist spot in front of Ise Jingu Shrine. Nearly one kilometer long, it is lined by many traditional style buildings, with shops and restaurants. We happily bought much local specialities and also souvenirs.
All in the detour took an hour of our time but it was great FUN! Look out for it… a popular area that we really enjoyed -- there's something here for everyone. Stepped onto the beautiful cobblestone streets of Oharaimachi and Okage Yokocho and have a feel of traveling back in time to the Edo period. Lol!

A beautiful street with quaint artisan shops, however if you’re after souvenirs look elsewhere, due to almost everything you see being handcrafted they are not cheap. If you can get up early enough and catch the sunrise by the river you will not be disappointed!

This area of preserved store fronts and small shops is a fun place to sample local treats, grab a meal, or look for souvenirs after your visit to the Ise Naiku Shrine. The street follows the Isuzu River north from the main entrance to the shrine and runs parallel to the road that carries most of the bus traffic to the shrine. For lunch here, I sampled some huge and delicious deep-fried oysters fished from Toba Bay ($1 each) and washed them down with a local craft beer ($4), then topped that off with some dango for dessert. This is a popular area that we really enjoyed -- there's something here for everyone.

A good pitstop at this shopping street after visiting the shrine. Many restaurants offering local delicacies and merchandises. Tasting street foods as we walked along the street gave different kind of enjoyment in a peaceful atmosphere.
