I went there with my girlfriend, because she is a big fan of "Slam Dunk". We also visited the high-school, but it is not allowed to enter or take pictures.
We had a walk on the beach and enjoyed the atmosphere. - I suggest to talk a walk through the streets in this town to get more feeling about the "real" Japanese way of life.

How we went there?
Hamamatsucho Green JR (it is possible to buy the ticket directly to Kamakura there!) --> in Shinagawa transferred to the red JR (there are express lines which will only stop in Kawasaki, Yokohama and Ofuna) --> Kamakura transfer to the green "old-style" streetcar --> exit in Kamakura-Koko-Mae

(from Shinagawa to Kamakura it takes about 45min with the JR)

I live extremely nearby Kamakurakoukoumae station.
It is the only or one of the few station facing the ocean in Japan.
The station is mainly frequented by the local residents or the students from Kamakura high school.
The view to the beach is undoubtedly breathtaking but nothing else. The station is located in the middle of road 134 and you will end up walking for while to get anywhere else.

However lately, there has been a surge of Chinese tourists, that have been flocking along the railroad crossing and love to take pictures when the Enoden train passes. This is due to the SLAM DUNK animation that is located in kamakurakoukoumae.
Many chinese have caused trouble in even entering without authorization the kamakura high school gates since the SLAM DUNK main character is supposedly studying at that school.
Weekends are the worst time to go there, and the crowds cause problems to car traffic which is a true headache for locals.
There is nothing truly special about the station.. if you go there, remember you are just visiting and be civil in not disturbing the tax paying local residents.

Better save your energy at Hase and visit all the temples and shops there!

Just exactly the same opening shot of Slam Dunk's MV. That's all, don't expect anything else from here. But you might need to stay for a while taking a GOOD photo though, coz there will always plenty of people getting in your way. Wait for your turn :)

Although famous in an anime series and many films this is only a quick stop for the necessary photo.

Kamakura is an efficient and helpful station, and visitors sometimes need some help in finding thier way if self guided.

Around 5 minutes walk from the train station, famous photo spot to salute to the basketball comic. Actually quite a lot of tourists will be there.

This is stop EN08, or the eight stop on the Enoshima Electric Railway. You will taking this to go to Great Buddha Kotokuin Temple and the city of Kamakura. Mostly Japanese get off at this stop because the Japanese TV series, Slam Dunk was and is filmed here. As a tourist, this stop is one of the closest to the sea, so you might want to go to the beach or watch surfers, otherwise, I would not suggest getting off here. Save your energy for Hase, and Great Buddha and Kamakura, the last stop.

I have been to the Kamakura Kokomae Station for 5 times. I am not a big anime fan, but I am truly amazed by the beautiful sea view in Kamakura. For those of you who are Slam Dunk's fans, you'd love this station where the scene and setting are almost the same as you can see from the anime. I love coming to this station for you can take off from the JR train, spending some 15-20 minutes for taking photos on the sea shore and surroundings. Nice place for tourists and anime fans.

Purchase a train pass for the Enoden line and enjoy this entire train line. This particular station faces Enoshima and provides a great view of the ocean. NOTE: If you a coming from the Odakyu line and transferring to go to Enoshima Island -THIS IS NOT THE STATION TO GET OFF. IT IS A GOOD 2 KM away.
