Went here early and it was quiet and peaceful, not a lot of other people here. An impressive temple with some interesting surroundings. You'll get some good photos here if it's a nice day.

This is one of the best places I have visited in Japan and I have been to a variety of different temples/shrines in Japan. You have to go and see it for yourself it is quite amazing. It looks like it could be out of an elaborate set for a movie just stunning.

There is also a staircase that leads to a graveyard but it is without a doubt one of the most idyllic places due to the way things are laid out with the beautiful trees. Took me back a bit being in this area I was quite overwhelmed by it all.

I went relatively early and there were not that many people so it might play differently if its busy, however if you can see this when not many people are around it is a absolute must see!

This Buddhist temple is not far from the center of Kamakura but not much visited. It is set in a beautiful little valley where the main sound is bird song. I found this temple to be wonderfully atmospheric, peaceful and calm. The temple buildings are lovely and the temple is surrounded by graveyards in the hills. Note there is a large octagonal nursery school near the entrance which is not part of the temple.

We came to this temple looking for the "Gionyama Hiking Trail" but actually the trail starts at Yagumojinja, a smaller shrine close-by, not Myohonji as stated online.

Myohonji is not very big but surprisingly nice and not very crowded even on a Sunday afternoon. It's also free to enter. Some very interesting carvings and a peaceful quiet atmosphere. It's just a short walk from the East Exit of Kamakura Station - just walk straight, cross the scramble crossing to see the big map. Turn right the make a left uphill past the post office then follow the signs.

There are many temples and shrines in Kamakura. And some of those places are well
known for sight seeing. And the others are not.

This temple is a latter.

Probably it's less than 10 mins walk from Kamakura station and located in a valley, very quiet, time passes by slow here. Less sightseener here, but you'd see a seen of an ancient city.

A 20 min walk from the town.
Good for exercise, otherwise really boring.
Luckily there were a couple of Cherry Blossoms around
Surprised at what people take photos of. Some guy even had a tripod.
Get a life man!!!!
