東京周辺のあじさいの名所でもっともすばらしい場所。緑を背景に、背丈より高いあじさい2500本が花を咲かせています。喧騒や街並から遠く、日常を忘れて、あじさいと向き合い、あじさいに包まれます。明月院ブルーと呼ばれるあじさいの色味も美しい。石段付近は、有名な写真スポットで、人のいない写真を撮影しようとするカメラ小僧が、通行をブロックしていますが、寺は通行を禁止していないので、堂々と通ってください。両側からあじさいが迫る中、少しずつ上昇して行く体験が、すばらしい。 別料金となる奥の庭園に入らない拝観者も多いようですが、あじさいに加え、花菖蒲も花を咲かせ、鎌倉らしい山が迫った谷戸の雰囲気も風情があります。 This is the most wonderful place to see hydrangeas around Tokyo. 2,500 hydrangeas taller than you are blooming against a green background. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can forget about your daily life by the hydrangeas which envelope you. The color of the hydrangeas, called Meigetsu-in Blue, is also beautiful. The stone steps' approach is a famous photo spot, and photo geeks trying to take photos without people block the way, but the temple does not prohibit passage, so please go through without reserve. It is a wonderful experience to rise little by little between hydrangeas on both sides. Many visitors do not enter the garden at the back, which requires a separate fee. In addition to hydrangeas, irises are also blooming there, and the atmosphere of the shallow valley with the hills approaching is typical of Kamakura and tasteful.

Meigetsuin is located near Kita Kamakura station. Please use Google Maps to get there. It takes 10 minutes from Kita Kamakura. In June. Meigetsuin is packed with tourists who want to see hydrangea. You should check the hours on the website. I think English info is available. In Japan, June is a rainy season. Please bring an umbrella.

I give this 3 stars only because in July, there are very few hydrangeas in bloom. The cost is 500 yen, but then if you want to visit the back garden, it is an additional 200-300 yen. I declined the back garden because the Iris flowers were not in bloom. Nonetheless, it is a gorgeous and beautiful property to walk thru. Would love to walk this place again during the month of June when the flowers are in full bloom,
