Visited Ford Ward Museum and Park last week. What a great little park to walk and take in the civil war-era earthworks and artillery pieces. The small museum had lots of very interesting artifacts which explained the importance of these forts in the defense of...More

In years past we used to take the grandkids to this park and they could run and play to their hearts content. Now that they are more into electronics, we take our dogs to enjoy the park. They love to walk the many paths. Sometimes...More

This public park takes the visitor back into history. Visit the museum and become acquainted with the artifacts on display then visit the fort proper which is easily reached from the museum. After that explore the rest of the park and learn about the history...More

Fort Ward is a quality small historical area with plenty of green space and ideal for pet walking. Would suggest going early on weekends as it is well used by local walkers.

Nice, quiet park for a picnic lunch and letting the kids play. Entrance was a little tough to find because our GPS wasn't showing us the right place to enter, but look for the yelllow museum building to get into the park.

Fort Ward is one of the scores of forts built to defend Washington during the Civil War. There is little or nothing left of most of them, but Fort Ward is well-preserved, including most of its earthen ramparts and one restored section that includes cannons...More

Walked around this spot with my son and his new dog. Really enjoyed seeing the changing fall leaves and the fort. Nice spot for a picnic but I saw a lot more people running and walking dogs - great open spaces. Seemed easy to get...More

We live close by and often walk through this old battlefield and fort site. The walking is in pleasant surroundings and the museum is worth a walk through for history buffs. Periodically throughout the year there are civil war reenactments. Fun to see the period...More
