This is a must see if you are in Austin. Great food and atmosphere in the evening. Not great for kids though.

We went on a Tuesday night and while it was a little dead at first, the crowds did come out. GREAT music of all types. If you don't like the music or atmosphere in one joint, just step next door. At some point, find one of the places with a balcony or rooftop so you can people watch without being... More

Sixth Street comes in 3 varieties. Old Pecan Street between Congress and IH-35 has lots of history, endless bars, music, and some food locations. West 6th a little more upscale and endless bars too. East of I 35 6th Street newer, for the hipsters. Just walking any of the street areas will give you a unique feel for Austin culture.

So, always wanted to go to Austin and take in the music scene. Then we go. 2 to 3 blocks from 6th there is a huge homeless shelter. So I figure no big deal, go to NYC a couple days a week and see homeless people in the worst parts of the city, and they're completely benign for the most.... More

Lots & lots of homeless and drunks. We were there with our family and stayed not far from 6th street. We saw police & paramedics administering aid on several different times. Lots of bars with open patios with loud music and seedy looking street people. Not a good place for young people.

Just an amazing stretch of the city. When the block off several blocks on 6th street for anyone to be able to walk the around the streets with their beverage in hand is awesome. Any bar, or place to eat you try you will just absolutely love.

There is a lot of music along this street and at night it is shut down so that way you can bar hop or just party in the street. Great for people watching!

This is by far one of the craziest and wildest attraction of Austin. Street is barricaded on weekend nights from vehicles and you can roam on foot at will. No matter what your draw, you'll find your favorite spot. Whether it's at Buzzard's Billiards, SanJac Bar, The Dizzy Rooster, VooDoo Doughnuts or Esther's Follies, you'll have a blast. Want a... There are a lot of different bars, restaurants and live music venues on 6th street. Maggie Mae's is a fun place to hang out or just walk around and listen to the vibe.
