This is the best place to get a view of Lake Austin, the bridge and the Westlake area (across the river). There is a hiking trail at the right end of the parking area. We like to hike up, and take the stairs down. Stay back from the edge, don’t throw rocks as there are a few homes at the... More

The hike is very short then you reach the viewing area. Wonderful quick visit for friends coming in town.

Made the journey to Mount Bonnell to see great views of the valley, river and Austin on the horizon. It's several flights of stairs to the top, be warned, but worth the view. Dog friendly.

Great view of Texas hill country. Crazy expensive homes along river/lake that you can look down on. Steps aren't as bad as pictured, although once you get to top, as far as being some beautiful landscaped park with facilities- it is not. Look the other way and you cam get a good glimpse of downtown. An unexpected gem- not in... More

We expected a lot of hiking and sight-seeing involved. Found out it was just a quick/short hiking up the rocky path to overlook the lake and cityscape. Brought a picnic lunch. Lunch was not very successful with others standing on the tables to get a better view of the city past the trees.

I love coming to Mount Bonnell with my friends/family. It doesn't matter what time of the day because during the day, you get to see the houses and during the night, you get to see the stars and all the lights next to the river!!!

There are quite a few stairs but it's worth the climb. You can stop and rest if needed. There are views of downtown Austin, City Lake.. Nothing will disappoint! It was very crowded when we went (Easter weekend) so it was hard to take photos at times. I imagine the sunsets are stunning.

I finally got to Mt. Bonnell. I can't believe I lived in Austin for 6 years and never drove up it. But having done it now, I can understand. There isn't much to it. The drive is easy and quick. It is a foothill, not a mountain, but Texas is so flat that any rise in elevation is a big... More
