Great mini hike for a nice view of the 'lake.' Take water (or a full picnic)! Nice place, but only worth hanging out for a little while, doesn't need a half-day or anything like that.

It was toward the end of the afternoon and we were museum-ed out. W e took a nice drive out here and wanked up a long flight of steps for great views from the top. Locals are running and jogging but we just wanted something...More

Beautiful place for a proposal! You can see views of Lake Austin and have an excellent view of the Austin Skyline as well. This is also an excellent place to go watch the sunset. Word of advice, don't wear shoes that are difficult to walk...More

Mt Bonnell is away from the hussle and bussle of downtown Austin. I recommend going early in the morning (9am) esp in the summer to beat the heat and to find parking. It offers a great view of Austin.

My sister bought me here while visiting from out of town. It's a cute date spot with lots of snuggling romantic views. The luxury homes below are a site to see. Nice spot for picture taking and an easy walk uphill.

There isn't many hills in Texas so you appreciate the ones that are here. Great view with an easy trail or a set of steps

My sisters and I visited this iconic site specifically to scatter my mother's ashes, as per her final wishes. Once there, I could see why she chose the spot. Overlooking Lake Travis(which is actually part of the Colorado River, I believe), the picturesque views are...More

Yes. They have picnic tables & trash cans there in assorted areas but be prepared for a few people passing by & possibly asking for a bite of food!

We won't have a car so what is the best way to get there from downtown?

If you're like most locals and are into fitness, you can rent a bike. If riding in hills is not your thing, you can use a ride-share app like rideaustin (Uber and Lyft don't work here).

How long would it take to complete the trail?

Not long at all, maybe ten or fifteen minutes. It's not really a trail, just a set of steps up to the top from the parking area. It's absolutely worth doing, though, because its the best view in Austin.
