We came here for an early swim and hang out. It was my first time swimming in natural spring water. Definitely refreshing. Do be careful because it is natural, the bottomed of the "pool" is slippery. I wish I had my snorkeling gears to see...More
One of our favourite parts of Austin. We cycled there from East Austin and it took about an hour with a few stops along the way. Definitely worth doing though and the water was pretty clean!! Would be cool if there was seating around the...More
Barton Springs is an Austin classic
It is fed by spring water so there isn’t chlorine (or much) in the water and it is a huge swimming pool with a natural bottom floor. Parking can be tough and it can be crowded but worth it.
Wow nice park!! Dog friendly & kid friendly & has place to pick up snacks & has a train you can ride one sude you can get in the water with your pets & kayak or canoe/ other side of water you pay to get...More
A public pool that Austin has enjoyed for decades. I swam here in a bikini bottom in the 70's, in a maternity suit in the 80's, with the kiddos in the 90's, dropped off the youngest teens all summer in 10's and it is still...More
We visited this popular natural pool on Labor Day and it was safe for kids despite being extremely crowded with visitors.
It is fascinating to watch the different types of people who frequent this place for exercise or leisure. Clearly a popular place for locals....More
Fun outdoor natural pool! Water is cool but not crystal clear. Discount for residents, fun for children and adults. Topless sunbathing is tolerated. There are some lifeguards around the pool sitting on high chairs for everyone's safety.

NO food. NO alcohol. NO smoking. ONLY water. Take RIDESHARE. Parking is very limited. Respect the staff they are there to save your life. People drown at this pool. RESPECT THE STAFF. The reason for no food or sugary drinks is because of a battle with fire ants which the pool may be losing because so many people sneak food/drinks in. With the explosion of tourists and new residents the pool is struggling. Locals really hate folks who don’t adhere to these rules. There is always trash left over and that is heartbreaking to see a crushed can or spilled candy covered in ants. Residents love this pool and fiercly protect it. There are rats that like those salty pretzels and that brings snakes. And, get stung by fire ants and you or your babies day is ruined. It’s a life cycle. Get a stamp and have a picnic outside the gates. You can go in and out all day so why break the rules and risk getting thrown out? Buy a JIM JIM’S snow cone and there are food trucks to get pizza or empanadas just outside the gates. Lots of restaurantswithin walking distance.
