If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Stopped here while in town with family. They offer a guided tour but we opted to go it alone. Beautiful building and lots of rich history! You will learn more about the building by taking the tour. Loved seeing the senate and house chambers. Enjoyed...More

The Texas Capitol is just like the state....large and impressive. The rotunda is like nation's Capitol's only larger. The red stone walls are breathtaking. At night the lights in the rotunda are pretty tonsee all over town. It is free to visit.

The tour didn't give us a chance to go upstairs. This was the only interesting thing on the excursion. What a shame.

Haven't been to the capital since I was a kid. It was nice going back as an adult and seeing all the history and what the capital looks like. Would recommend for anyone of any age.

The largest State Capitol is impressive with a fine building and subtle attention to details such as the customised hinges. The tour was good given the constraints of time and having to compete with the noise and hubbub in the entrance and rotunda areas

We did not spend that much time here because we were on a tour but it was an interesting building. Please do not take your firearms or weapons in this building, you have to go to security before entering.

This is a Texas Treasure. This is interesting both historically and aesthetically. The rotunda ceiling is worth the walk up Congress Street. It is air conditioned and free. Our guide was very approachable and quick to answer questions. It took about an hour to tour....More

I understand there is a 'quick' line for Concealed Handgun License holders only. Can all in the CHL holder's party go through this line with him or will he have to wait for the rest of his party to go through the regular line?

Sorry Elizabeth, but I was in Dubai, UAE when you submitted the question. The #37 bus would have taken you from your location to 8th & Guadalupe. Only a few blocks from the Capitol.
