If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Just returned after a two week road trip of Texas which of course included Austin . We completed the "free" accompanied tour of the Capital State building , our guide was very informative and interesting . The architecture of the building is very impressive and is a must for travellers to Austin.

Three of us toured on April 22. Portraits of the past Governors on each floor. Paintings in the Senate and representative chambers deserve time. They show Texas history and why Texans are independent. Agtrr we walked the beautiful grounds. The Tyler rose exhibit and other markers need to be seen. I was amazed at the reality of the Vietnam war... More

This was a delightful way to spend an hour of our afternoon. Both the grounds and building are absolutely beautiful! The history is fascinating and well explained during one of the free tours of the building. It was interesting, informative and funny. Our tour guide was great! The building is incredibly impressive and you can learn and see a lot... More

This is a must for any real Texan. I was amazed at the size and detail in the architecture. I was there after hours so didn't get to see it in all its glory so I will defiantly be back!

Spend some time at the State Capitol. Toured the inside. Very interesting. There was a protest going on outside on the capitol steps. Very organize and civil.

Don't miss the visitor center. If you have a child, download the educational guides and Scavenger hunt. Don't miss the water well. If you get a guide that's hard to understand just wait for a new one.

Seen 1 Capitol, you've seen them all. Parking in Austin is hellacious. The hightlight was the cafeteria, which as a bit pricy.

An impressive building in architecture and design. The grounds are well maintained. Be sure to get the brochures for the Capitol and the grounds. Didn't take the guided tour but that is an option.
