Like whale watching, seeing the bats is one of those seasonal things that you may or may not see despite that austin vendors seem to sell incentives year round. It's phenomenal when they are out but underwhelming when they aren't. Based on people who have lived here for years, the very best month to see them is May but be... More

We waited for the bats to come out until 9pm..no bats, was very disappointed. But the bats are pregnant, so apparently didn't want to make a showing. You could see one of the capital cruises shining a red light onto the bridge trying to coax out the bats.

This is pretty cool to watch. There is a nice running/biking path under the bridge to explore while you are waiting for sunset. On the weekend expect lots of people and arrive early

Watching a million+ bats emerge from under the bridge at twilight is breathtaking. Get there early to find a good spot, then watch along the treeline as the bats head east for their nightly feast of tens of thousands of pounds of insects.

Get there at least 3mins before the sun completely sets in order to get a good spot on the bridge. A bunch of people come to see this attraction. I recommend viewing it from the bridge because you can see the bats better. If you try to view them from the water you can only see them fly over the... More

We came to Austin on the way home from a road trip just to see all these bats. It was definitely worth the stop. It's amazing to see so many bats and watch them all travel the same way. The bridge looks to be the best way to see them and it's free ! It's hard to find free parking... More

One of the stranger things to do in Austin is encounter bats en masse. You can either hike Bracken Cave or you can leisurely drive to Town Lake and park your butt and your evening snack on the lawn of the Austin American Statesmen newspaper which sweeps down to the lake. Bat encounters are like Manta Ray encounters in the... More

Auston is crazy about their bats. I never knew how big of a attraction it was until I started asking what I should see in the city. Everyone I spoke with said go see the bats at sundown. Now everyone had their own oppion on where to view them from and I did not think it would matter much. I... More

An amazing sight to see right in the middle of town. A million and a half bats leaving underneath a bridge at dusk who is said to consume 20,000 pounds of insects per night. Watch out for the guano! Worth seeing.
