We stood on Congress Avenue Bridge for nearly two hours on Monday night last, May 22nd, but unfortunately the Bats did not come out. There were a lot of people waiting, on the bridge, and several boats in the river, but nothing happened......... We did see a swarm of bats, in the very far distance, for a moment or two,... More

We saw the bats by a boat ride with Capital cruises and it was amazing! The boat diver was a local and she was so informative and had a great sense of humor. The cost was $10 and lasted 90 minutes. We boarded and went up river and turned around as the sun was setting on a beautiful Austin night... More

Who knew that millions of bats flying out from under a bridge could be such a spectacular sight? Kids enjoy the sight. Lovers hold hands watching the bats' flight. Solo travelers stop to watch the sight. Come early. Parking is always an issue and you want to be there when the first bat takes flight. But if you miss the... More

Watching the bats emerge from the Congress Avenue bridge at Sunset is a truly unique experience. Find a parking place and make your way to the southern bank of the river and just wait. Right around sunset it will start. A few at first, a few more, then streams and hundreds and thousands of bats, more than you believe can... More

I took my grandchildren to a grassy area to watched the bats leave the bridge. It was fun meeting others gathered with lawn chairs, coolers, and blankets to visit while awaiting the mass migration. No cost involved other than parking in the parking lot of the old Austin Statesman. Fun, memorable event with little cost.

We chose to watch from the lawn on the south side under the bridge. It would be cool to also see them from above to watch a longer row of them flying. The lawn is good though because as the sun sets it's easier to see the bats for a longer time because of the lighting.

We got up on the bridge about a half hour before sunset. The crowd slowly began to grow and eventually filled the entire East side of the bridge. There were larger crowds down on the ground. Then the first few bats flew out...and more....and then just black clouds of bats came out and flew eastward....And it got quiet on the... More

I was SOOOOOO excited to see the bats. Waiting with a horde of people as it started to get dark. We waited. And waited. And waiiiiitttttteeed. Finally it was time!!!!!!! There was a distance group of bats flying away. What? I waited all that time to squint and see what may or may not be bats in the distance??? So... More
