More
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us. The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

Our family went to center to see the spring flowers and bluebonnets. We had a pleasant visit; but, was surprised at the cost of entry.

We visited on an overcast autumn morning and thoroughly enjoyed the carefully curated samples, and short video in the visitor center. The climb to the tower was fun - how cool that there are succulents growing along the top edges of the tower! The paths...More

It has been just a year, but I remember it fondly. The wildflowers are not quite in season when we went, but there are plenty of other things to see, including an exhibition about all the wildflowers in the area.

It sounds like a Bois d’arc Tree and the green fruit are what we call horse apples. The horse apples also are fun for target practice. Bois d’arc would is one of the hardest woods made.
