The Henderson County Historical Museum is located one block north of the downtown square and is housed in the historic Faulk-Gauntt Building. First built in 1896 as a grocery store, exhibits on the first floor continue to emulate a turn-of-the-century dry goods store while the second floor is a re-creation of an early law office, parlor, bedroom, bath, kitchen, and schoolroom. Small but super local historical museum

A small museum with a very friendly and interesting history guide. The Civil War Flag is the highlight. There are some interesting medical items: medical books, eyeglasses, dentistry items, etc. There are some farm/ranching equipment, some high school items, some antique dolls and an interesting cabinet from the old courthouse. Local history at its best. You can learn a lot from looking at the pieces on exhibit. But the local history really comes alive when it is told to you by someone who really knows her stuff. There are some Civil War pieces, some Native American artifacts and tons of stuff from the 1800s and early 1900s. After a while,... More

The building looks run down and most displays are dusty. But if you get past that you will see some really interesting pieces of history. The lady working didn't speak much about the objects themselves but we did have nice conversations about the history of Henderson County. There is no fee but donations are welcome.
