This is a very awesome park to visit but very remote. Make sure you have gas and everything you need. Out of this world scenery. The distances to sites can be very far apart, so you should have more than one day. Great wild life.

Hiding in the desert of west Texas up in the volcano is a great resturant, great hiking trails, great lodging, extremely cool for summer visits. We’ve been back 3 times and look forward to more. Veterans get stay discount. Love the wild life that comes...More

With so many trails at varying degree of difficulty, it offers something for every kind of traveller who is seeking relaxation. Its not necessarily the best place for kids as there is not much for them. You will see a lot of elderly, couples, mature...More

Nothing can prepare you for what you're about to see! I have been to Big Bend several times in my life, all at different times of the year, and it's always a pleasure and makes me proud to be Texan! I have been twice in...More

There’s no way to adequately describe Big Bend. If you love the outdoors and hiking, you’ll be awestruck here. When books say “rugged beauty” this is what they mean. It’s so. Beautiful but like nothing I’d ever seen. Hike santa Elena trail and lost mine,...More

This was a top bucket list item for many years! Seeing the park was beyond my greatest expectations. So much to do so allow plenty of time. Bring snacks and water, it is important to dress appropriately. Bring a change of clothes to the Hot...More

I didn't have high expectations before I went to the park, because some of my friends said it is just OK. However, I really enjoyed my time there, which is about 2 days only. I stayed outside the park, so I experienced the dark night...More

Maverick road runs thru the Big bend park, it's unpaved and rough but still a great time. I do have a four wheel drive but wasn't needed.

Spend the morning there as early as you can when it's cool and much less crowded than the afternoon. Head to the centre, the Chisos basin and hike up any of the trails. Fabulous views and escape.

Definitely contact Panther Junction visitor center. When we visited last December we had 3 days at Bibe and wanted to do everything! The knowledgeable and courteous staff and volunteers helped us immensely.

Hi,I need ome help, please! We,my huband (and me ) will be in the US ,middle of November 2016. He will be attending a congres in San Antonio and we will be there for a week. Then we will rent a car and would like to do some sightseeing. We do love nature, are almost 70 years of age,and do have some, unfortunate, health issues. I do have SLE and he did have a knee replacement 4 weeks ago,but that will all be sorted out by November We also ,if possable, would not like to do more than 250-300 Km each day and we have app 10 days before coming home, also boarding in San Antonio, and overnight in San Antonio the night before returning home to South Africa. We thought of first going to the Big Bend Nat Park, then to up north to Amarillo, then back to San Antonio. We always try to keep away of the highways if possable Please,if you know the area, give us some pointers, where, what and how. Thank you so much. Izelle
