The Dupont Planetarium is located at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at USCAiken. They do shows for the public every Saturday night with two showings. The planetarium has a vast array of shows and changes them every month. After your done if it is a clear night you can go up on the roof to the Observatory and use the magnificent telescope to view Saturn's rings and many other heavenly bodies. Inside the Ruth Patrick is a great Science store which is open during the public shows.

Excellent place to take your family, especially kids to visit. If they are having a show that evening at the Planetarium, by all means take it in!! It is one of the most informative shows I've seen and they do change it up during the year so you won't see always the same show.

We had been to Aiken, South Carolina during this week end. Having come to know about the Dupont Planetarium, we made a visit to this planetarium on Saturday.
The DuPont Planetarium is located at the University of South Carolina, Aiken. The Planetarium which was opened in September 1995, conducts school programs, general-interest level PROGRAMS for the public, specialized programs for UNIVERSITY classes, and private shows for parties and other events.
The Planetarium consists of 45-seats, a 30-foot diameter tilted aluminum dome, planetarium projection systems and Spice automation system.. These equipment's have the capabilities of all-sky, video and panoramic projection.
Apart from the shows for students and for University classes, the DuPont Planetarium is open for public SHOWINGS on Saturdays. All shows are of one hour and each show includes a live "sky tonight" portion. We were incidentally here on a Saturday and we could attend the show. It was fantastic and educative too. Other public shows like Mission to Mars, Solar System, Dark Shadows are scheduled on different dates during August and September during this year.
One more interesting thing is that the DuPont Planetarium chamber houses the only known "camera obscura" that shines on the inside of a planetarium dome.

There were only five of us during the 'show'. It was pretty well done and there was a lot to see. Took a five year old, think that this is a little young - probably need to be 10+ to truly enjoy.

This was a great night out with interactive education and entertainment (seeing the stars). An awesome part of early dinner followed by the planetarium. My wife and I plan to go back for a different show when the planets are aligned (literally).

When visiting Aiken last weekend we took time to attend a showing of Seven Wonders (A M A Z I N G) and “live night sky” chat followed by looking through the observatory telescope at Jupiter & 4 moons, Moon and Saturn. Telescope time is only available as weather permits. The volunteer astronomer was happy to share his knowledge and let us stay and chat/look thru the telescope after rest of viewers went home. A very inexpensive outing and really WONDERful. We will return!

Check this place out on a clear night. About a one hour presentation in their theater and then you get a chance to look at the solar system through the big telescope. It was a full moon the night we went. What a thrill.

I learned about the planetarium through a meetup group that I am a member of. In all these years of living in Augusta, I never really knew about this place. I knew of an observatory "out there" somewhere but never knew about the science center. We attended the show entitled "Seven Wonders." It was about the original seven wonders of the earth with a bit of the history of each of them. After the show, the docent put up the night sky over us and pointed out the different constellations and explained how they were named. When we left the auditorium, we walked up to the observatory and were able to observe Venus, Mars (a bit cloudy), and finally Jupiter. I could see Jupiter the clearest - the cloud stripes and two of the moons. It was very interesting and educational. I plan to bring my niece to a show when she visits in October. I can recommend this for families young and old.

If you love the universe you will love it here! I am currently living in the Los Angeles area and Griffith is insane, but I adored Aikens small version...a great place to spark the mind.
