You don't need to head to England to experience the genius of a Shakespearean play. Much closer to home is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival located in Ashland, Oregon. Every year at the end of October you can enjoy on average over ten of Shakespeare's plays performed in both classic and newly imagined style. Separate tickets are needed for each show which is held at one of the event campus's two indoor or one outdoor spaces.

Very much enjoyed the semi-outdoor production of Two Gentlemen of Verona. Had no problem finding parking. Several restaurants close by, mostly what I consider to be fast food. Snacks, soft drinks, beer and wine available at the venue. The temperature was in the low 70s to upper 60s the evening we were there and comfortable for us. Recommend you check... More

I remember disliking Shakespeare in high school and I am not huge in to the theater but we went with some friends to give it a try. Wow it was amazing. We saw Two Gentlemen of Verona and it was really wonderful. The seats are hard so rent a pillow from the concession area.

We were in Ashland on a non-Shakespeare night, and saw "Into the Woods" I had trepidations after reading the synopsis, but the production was excellent! The theatre was the best of its kind I have ever seen, and even the drizzle could not dampen the experience. The actors, costumes, pacing of the play, and every aspect of the production was... More

The plays we saw were quite diverse. I must say that seeing Shakespeare set in Harlem was unusual, and not very entertaining.

I had not been here for probably 30 years but had find remembrance of outdoor theater on warm summer nights. This IS Broadway caliber performances and Shakespeare plays are only part of what is available. I saw four plays in three days. Richard III was brilliantly performed so the audience sympathized with this dastardly villain and sat through his treachery... More

Went to see the productions of a Comedy of Errors and Tempest put on by the festival this year. Both were excellent. My teenage children enjoyed them as much as the adults in the audience. The free performances on the Green Stage were a lovely experience prior to going to the shows in the theaters. We saw a Morris dancing... More

Living in Oregon, we have attended plays at the OSF in Ashland on many occasions over the years, and enjoyed them so much, we even had season tickets at one time. All (3) theaters have their own special charms, but the outdoor Elizabethan Theater is really a fabulous venue for the Shakespearian plays in the summer. The Angus Bowmer Theater... More

Very good--but not excellent. Each show did most things very well, but, in the end, I was not really thrilled. For tickets this expensive, I expect a little more. I did enjoy one of the 5:30 "preface" talks (and one I did not).

I thoroughly enjoyed 3 plays - Richard III, 2 Gentlemen of Verona, and Into the woods. The acting was professional, costumes and sets wonderful, and the music for Into the Woods was superb. Get there 3 hours early to find a parking space or be prepared to walk a fair distance.
