Our permanent home is now under construction, but you can still watch our carvers and painters at work in our temporary studio, and enjoy browsing our gift shop. We should be in our new home in June, 2017. Founded in 2004, the Historic Carousel and Museum is creating a world class carousel complex in downtown Albany that will draw visitors from around the world and contribute to the economic revitalization of historic downtown Albany.

If you like an old fashioned carousel in a relatively quiet town, this is a fun stop. It's nice for small children too.

A local woman was impressed by a carousel she saw on her travels and was able to convince her community to make one! The animals are hand carved and painted by local volunteers. The carousel itself was donated and took many years to get operational. We were there on a weekend so did not get to see the volunteers working... More

The best part of the visit, for us, was getting to see a couple of wood carvers working on new horses - don't miss the carvers' workshop.

Extremely artistic and historic. They don't make 'em like this any more. Well worth stopping in for a peek at some old world carousel figures.

My nine year old grandson likes to carve so, having read the reviews, we went there one rainy Saturday. We were intrigued from the moment we walked through the front door. The carved animals went from the totally finished to the just started. We were privileged to spend a few minutes with one of the carvers who answered our questions... More

I had to keep reminding myself that this is a community effort. All the animals are hand carved, by reg. folks, painted by the same people, and the craftsmanship is just overwhelming. When the Carousel is done, with all the thousands of man hours, and skill, I don't think I would let anyone ride on it. It is too beautiful.... More

Fun to visit but take time to talk to all the craftspeople for some great info. Lots of great carvers here and a community project that will be stunning when finished.

Stop by the Historic Carousel and Museum to see in person the horses and other animals in different stages of being carved and painted for the Albany Carousel. The carvers are always great to answer questions and visit with you about the upcoming carousel. FREE FREE FREE

If you are at all interested in the old Carousels you want to see this. At this stage you can still see the animals for the carousel being carved from blocks of bass wood. Children over 6 will be fascinated. Younger children will be in awe. This is indeed a monumental undertaking. Many volunteers are involved.

Probably the most wholesome and creative place to visit in the valley. Lots of volunteers and artwork as skilled and creative as it is beautiful. Stop by and check them out. Great if you have kids.
