Our permanent home is now under construction, but you can still watch our carvers and painters at work in our temporary studio, and enjoy browsing our gift shop. We should be in our new home in June, 2017. Founded in 2004, the Historic Carousel and Museum is creating a world class carousel complex in downtown Albany that will draw visitors from around the world and contribute to the economic revitalization of historic downtown Albany.

We walked our grandkids and kids down to the 'carving shop' during their visit, and all ages were intrigued by the work that had been done, and the various levels of 'completed' work. Even the posters in the outside windows held their attention as we looked for the completed versions of the parts and pieces that were being currently worked.... More

This takes us 'grown ups' back to childhood and children just enjoy and love all of this. The work that has been done is magical!

We as a community have watched the carousel come to life. From the hand craved animals all with a history. The history of the mechanic, and building a progress of the building. Even the fundraising.

We got to view a lot of the restored carousel animals and they are being restored beautifully. Look forward to a future visit to see the Carousel in action/

We're delighted that you stopped by the Albany Historic Carousel. All of our animals have been hand-carved and painted, so are actually brand new! Each one is a beautiful work of art. More

The Historic Carousel is finally getting a brand new building and construction is moving quickly. It has always been a fabulous asset for Historic Albany and will be a national standard working carousel and museum. As a project, the restoration of the carousel and the building of the displays is an object lesson in community spirit.

I can only say it was surprisingly interesting. For any of you who have ridden carousel horses it's a trip back in time. Unfortunately, the building I know near Monteith Park was demolished last month and we don't know if there still is a museum.

Thank you for visiting us! Yes, our old building has been torn down and the new building is going up fast! We are scheduled to be up and running in June 2017. If you are on Facebook, you can follow the construction on our page @AlbanyHistoricCarousel. We post often with photos and videos of the construction progress. More

It was very interesting how they originally carve the many different carousel parts. Not just the horses, but the benches and all the characters that are part of the merry-go-round. The craftsmen are casual and will talk with you (yes, you can ask questions) as to how they prepare each part and place them together. The pieces are all carved... More
