The wife and I went to Fort Macon recently and couldn't stop talk during and after about how well preserved and pristine the grounds are. Fantastic historical site.

To fully appreciate the fort, I would recommend watching the short historical film they show inside the entrance. The fort is full of artifacts and in-depth descriptions. It's free and was not crowded when we visited.

I have been there many times and have never seen any hook ups. Emerald Isle has even better beaches and does have an RV park.
