We just happened to walk in as a guided tour was starting and we're so glad. The fort itself is interesting but the guide really made it come alive. Great attraction and it's free.

Stopped at Fort Macon State Park to go to the beach for a while and then go back to see the museum and the actual fort grounds. It is a nice little piece of NC wartime history. The museum is air-conditioned so that is nice...More

It's free! If you like history, then this is a must to visit. Lots of history is present and displayed. From the Visitor's Center, to rooms inside the fort, to just exploring the fort yourself. Keep little kids nearby to prevent failing off edges.

The Fort is part of larger state park with beaches & swimming options. The Fort is fully intact & provides brief insight into its history. As a smaller & less active fort throughout American history, it illustrates its role primarily in the form of a...More

I'm not sure. They are doing a beach erosion project with piping sand from the Fort Macon beach a mile or do down towards Atlantic Beach using large pipes. This is just a guess. Best thing to do is call the park
