There are many cement areas to the Fort. Canons face out toward the water. It doesn't take much time to visit Fort Macon.

Great history, beautiful place. Still a working coast guard station. Well worth the trip and the visit. Go inside the fort and the buildings. You will enjoy

We have visited numerous forts and Fort Macon rates the highest! It was interactive, well organized, informative. As a parent and a teacher, I HIGHLY recommend it!!

Well presented historic fort preserved very much like it was during the Civil War. Easy to walk on self guided tour but kids need to be watched as there are some big drops.

I'm not sure. They are doing a beach erosion project with piping sand from the Fort Macon beach a mile or do down towards Atlantic Beach using large pipes. This is just a guess. Best thing to do is call the park
