Much of the city of Patara remains buried in sand, which has helped to preserve many of the ruins. Of particular interest are the Amphitheatre, Necropolis and the monumental gate or Arch of Triumph.

This is a huge area, the beach is one of the longest in the country; sand dunes; a lagoon; Mediterranean plants; a really well protected area (because of the ruins and also the turtles, a major breeding place); scattered ancient ruins all over the place....More

We visited the ruins at the end of a walk on the Lycian Way; despite having walked for several hours we were content to wander for another couple of hours amongst these beautiful ruins. It is lovely to be able to wander at your pace...More

Wow. Don't miss this experience. To make it even better, get a guide. The money the government invested into renovating the site was well worth it. I wish they and academia could invest more. Enjoy! Worth the time to get there.

Patara ruins and the near by beach is a wonderful full day adventure. The ruins are incredible and a must see in the area. Make time to explore the further out ruins, the dunes, and the 18km sandy beach.

Patara was celebrated for its temple and oracle of Apollo, of which little remains. The highlight of these Lycian ruins is the 5000 seat amphitheater, it's still is very good condition and you can climb to the top. It doesn't take too long to visit...More

Patara, Letoon and Xanthos can be combined for a days trip. Highly recommend renting a car and setting your own pace. Patara is expansive so you can see a little or a lot. In 2015 the entrance fee is 5 TL

We were just in Ephesus and loved it but these ruins seem more real and intimate....I think mainly because they get no hype and there was almost no one there. We walked around by ourselves, read the well written signs that included English....and just felt...More

This is another of Turkeys little treasures, we came after visiting the beach so quite late, got some nice reflective shots along with the usual family ones. This is relatively small site, just right after trip to beach with teen!
