It was clean. Shoppers did not bother the visitors; it means they did not force the visitor to buy. There are three horizontal statues on the wall, two decapitated. Its tourism office could not help me to get information about it- No Matter, Normal. It is a cool place for visiting. There is a restaurant outside, across the street. Its Kebab, salad and drinking yogurt were delicious with a reasonable price.

    Great views
We walked here from our hotel, and the route up the road and through the park is extremely steep, also with many steps. Fine for us but if you have a wheelchair or pushchair, then either take a taxi to the top or go the road route to the top. Once at the top it's a little confusing to find the entrance as people still live within the citadel and there's also some restoration work going on, so at first we felt like we were walking around people's houses! Some of that area is very run down too. Eventually we found the main tourist entrance point. It's a good walk around and up more very steep steps to see the views. There's not much written about the castle around, so we resorted to our own research and listening in to someone else's guide! There are a few sellers selling cheap souvenirs. The castle is free to walk around and if you don't have any mobility issues then it's a lovely area to visit and see the views.

    Best views ever
Not just the best views of Ankara but some of the best views I have ever seen . The castle overlooks the city and you have a 360 degree view of the whole of Ankara. The roads around the castle are little windy ones filled with interesting little shops too . Definitely worth doing if you go to Ankara.

    Must-visit destination
This picturesque landmark in Ankara is a must-visit destination. It's brimming with shops, coffeehouses, and restaurants. The path culminates with an ancient castle a top a hill, offering a fantastic spot for panoramic views of Ankara. Along the pavements, shops sell iconic souvenirs to commemorate your visit, with symbolic magnets priced between 20 to 40 lira, depending on your selection. The small stone streets hark back to ancient times. A fountain is flanked by two cafés, one of which houses a collection of old antique dolls, adorning the walls and adding to the charm of the place. Our visit was uniquely delightful. We ordered two ice creams and a bottle of water, which cost 255 lira. The second floor features two rooms on either side of the staircase, one leading to a balcony. We were also treated to a performance of traditional hymns near the fountain as we exited the café, with singers and musicians donning traditional red attire and hats. In this expansive area, we discovered a local mall bustling with a plethora of shops and lively with people.

It’s very ancient and so many dynasties ruled here. Any one can easily understand from the walls. The houses are also different. From the top view of the whole city is visible.

It is located on one of the hills of Ankara in what was the initial center of the city
The pedestrian streets that surround it are very well preserved and many of the old houses have been converted into bars, restaurants, shops selling typical products and small hotels
It is very pleasant to walk through the streets, drink some Turkish coffee in one of the small squares and get lost haggling in the souvenir shops
The castle itself is not very well preserved because although it can be accessed and is well indicated, it lacks good preparation for tourism
But I recommend visiting it and above all enjoying the wonderful views of Ankara from it
As well as eating in one of the restaurants inside it or in the area

We meandered uphill towards the citadel from the old town. The citadel has changed hands many times from Roman then Byzantine and after 1073, Ottoman. The inside was a bazaar with lots of shops and stalls and we were also able to climb up on the walls. It was free to enter and you could see the construction using parts from old Roman buildings. The views over the city were impressive and the shops inside the citadel were lovely, a real mix and great to browse.

The action castle walls and gates are interesting as they have used recycled rocks from different sites therefore there are random bits throughout....upside down Roman script, ornate cornices etc.

Few shops inside. Wasn't that amazing really

I enjoyed my two days in Ankara. It is much less touristy and much cheaper than Istanbul and although it is much less picturesque it nevertheless has some excellent museums and an interesting old town around the castle. Take your Google translate because the standard of English is not great but the locals are very welcoming and make full use of Google translate!

Once you get up the hill you will find small little tourist shops in old style buildings, especiallly inside the castle walls. There are a lot of nice coffee shop with street side seating. On top of the wall you have a stunning view of the city.
